Yep - Pearl Jam were / are a better band [& still my all-time favourite band] - but Nirvana are more influential...
As an aside, I got drunk with Eddie, Stone & Jeff in New Orleans when I lived there in '93 - after a gig on their Vs tour - back in the days when I fecking looked like them ;D 8)

I've got some pics somewhere...I'll try to dig them out & scan 'em for posting...
They were v v v coolio too - really good fun to be with, welcoming, interested, down-to-earth & not pretentious dickheads [unlike Freddy Mercury ;)]
The Doors?!?!?!
Pretentious grade A tosswater... :-&
Motorhead
Ace of Spades is THE definitive rock song after which all other songs become redundant.
Metallica
Led Zeppellin
The rock band other rock bands regard as the best.

I completely forgot about Led Zep, that's thrown a cat among the pigeons...
Good to see some good taste on here -
1. Motorhead
2. Deep Purple
3. KISS
Cheers,
Kev
My top 3 changes all the time, 1) Led Zep
2) Pink Floyd
3) Motorhead
Although I could replace 2) with PWEI or The Prodigy or The Red GHot Chilli Peppers (or Little boots), depending on my mood!
Doors - I really have to be in the right mood to listen to
Just for a laught; I got my i-pod out and went to playlists (Top 25 played) I come up with this as my top 5 played songs
Imigrant Song: Led Zep
Higher Ground: Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Rock & Roll: Led Zep
Ace of Spades: Motorhead
Supermassive Black Hole: Muse
No 6: El Tango de Roxanne from Moulan Rouge
Then the Specials and back to Led Zep... :-[
oh dear god i appear to have walked into a Kerrang magazine annual picnic :)
ok the thread appears to have become 'my top bands' rather then 'most influential' so in which case my top are
1. The Jam
2. The Who
3. The Stone Roses
4. The Specials
5. The Kinks
6. Blur
7. The Small Faces
8. White Stripes
9. Happy Mondays
10. Arctic Monkeys (token gesture towards the 21st century)
But if we really mean most influential i'd hazard a stab at
Robert Johnson (from whom all rock music derives)
The Beatles
Led Zep
Sex Pistols
The Smiths
ps. i also hate Queen :)
I'd second the Robert Johnson vote - pity he gets the 'blues' label and not enough people know of his genius!
Not rock, not influential, but still f***ing good :)
1. King Kurt
2. The Cramps
3. Fireballs

- The Sex Pistols
- The Clash
- The Who
1 Noir Désir
2 Les Chats Sauvages
3 Dick River
Arsenus or The French Touch!^^
These are not in order of being my favorites
Robert Johnson( he started the rest off) no RJ No clapton and the british blues boom no Hard rock.
beatles
Led Zep
Chuck Berry
the who
the kinks
Difficult one as I listen to alot of different styles( during painting) now but for me these are the one's I go back to the most.
1 Hanoi Rocks
2 Backyard Babies
3 Motley Crue
So you'll never guess that I never really got grunge ;D ;D ;D ;D so Nirvana and Pearl Jam just didn't get a look in.
However Mother Love Bone they rocked !!
Coo !
This is going to give away peoples' ages !
I'll go for...

Hehe dunno about influe-ouential but I like the following a lot:
1. (Les) Rita Mitsouko - yup, them's from Paris
2. Rammstein - From East Berlin
3. Radiohead - Well known and bloody brilliant
That being said, I also adore Muse, Led Zep, The Doors, Queen, Hawkwind, Frank Zappa and many more.
Don't like KISS though, al this facade stuff :( Nor death metal or speed metal. Music needs some melody and a tad of drama.
Evidently, since I'm an oldish git some of these bands are 'blasts from the past' :-X
Pepsi-Cola
