Hi Jamie

I gamed WW2 Russians in 20mm 15mm. A couple of points to get your query into sharper focus.

1.  You state 'late war' - I presume you mean WW2 ?- SAY 1944 onwards ?

2. "Cannon" is not a term usually associated with 20th century warfare - in this context (WW2) usually means a 20mm aircraft or AFV weapon . Are you talking about field guns in 76.2mm or the 76.2 divisional gun or the 122mm or 152mm howitzers ?

Clarify these points and the Russian experts will no doubt come flying in !  Many of the tow vehicles for lighter guns in this late war era were of US/Allied supply.  Hope this is useful.

Either ZIS 6 or GAZ-AAA, or Studebaker 2.5 ton, or if you're feeling generous M3 half-tracks, for guns like the 76mm and 122mm

Codes:
Russian
SV52 ZIS 6 truck
SV38 Russian 2.5 ton truck (not sure what this one is, as there is no pic)
SV51 ZIS 42 half-track truck for larger calibre guns/howitzers

US
A20 2.5 tonne truck
BR46/BR46 M3 half-track

Horses I'm not sure about. There are some draft-horse + cart codes in the German list (GR35-37), but that may not be suitable.

I say cannons  a bit tongue in cheek as Eisenhower was heard asking "what cannons are these" during ww2

Yes i am doing 44 onwards , Thanks for the codes Kiwidave, was only going for horses as well because they are cheaper in bkc

Yep ! follow Dave's tracer, and also feel historially accurate to use Jeeps and Beeps for spotter vehicles etc . I had a Russion unit with M4s.  Made with encounters ...interesting.

Happy gaming

Jamie

If you want to keep the points low- I have seen WW2 photos of the 76.2 being towed by a jeep.  Indeed in the Bosnia, (in the late 20th century)I saw that faithful old field gun being towed by a selection of small 4x4s .  Its a light piece, so you don't need a heavy tractor.  In India I have seen 25pdrs towed by Dodge weapon carriers.

There's a Komsomolets being designed as well (but I can't find the relevant thread right now). Useful as well, even though it costs more points in BKC!

Hi

The only horse drawn limbers I can find that might be press-ganged with a heavy coat of paint and decent distance are:-

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ME13a-p3976/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ME13a-p3976/) (WW1 Mid_east British)

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/GP10-p3926/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/GP10-p3926/) (WW1 German)

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/BP10-p3868/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/BP10-p3868/) (WW1 British)

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ME14a-p3978/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ME14a-p3978/) (WW1 Turkish I believe)

These are all WW1 types and I have no idea what they look like apart from the descriptions. The British (if they have crews) may have service caps which could make them front runners for impersonators.

Here is a picture from Leon showing limbers and horses for WW1 Turks:-

Here is a picture of ACW limbers, if you are a dab hand with a file maybe you can convert the kepi to a sidecap:-

Maybe this could be plea for a generic Interwar/SCW/WW2 limber and horses set  :D :D :D?

Cheers

Fortuneatly for you late war Russians can legitimatly use trucks for towing guns. No hard and fast, and closr you get to front line more likley horses are. It's also possible that the light AT was towed by it's crew, aka the Italians.
