Hi
Does any one have any pics of the WW1 US cavalry? I was just wondering if the rig and tack was very much different to the British or French in this scale?
Cheers

Can I second GOM's request and widen it to ALL the WW1 US range? The "Yanks are coming" to AVBCW !

8) :D
They already arrived in Sussex :P
Cheers,

It would be nice if they were in Montana/Smokie Bear hats so that Pershing could go chasing Villa south of the Rio Grande
Good point Shedman, there are a couple of codes in SCW militia that paint up as excellent Villa forces ! Now has anyone an image of the WW1 Yanks ?

Hi All
poking around in corners I did come up with what I believe are pictures of American cavalry. They are from some of the dioramas from the prolific and talented brush of Carlos Briz aka jfariahitech from this forum.
I'll only post links because the pictures are large,

Pursuant to the discussion on ships does anybody know the provenance of the torpedo boat in this picture:-

Edit:- I found it, AER Moldava, old kit not sure if it's still produced, other gems such as these were available:-

Will try to follow up and see if these are still around.

Thanks GOM, always amazed by what you manage to uncover in dark corners. From a gaming aspect, these US figures appear to have little detail in 10mm to distinguish from Brits - small aspects like the chest mounted gasmask case etc. Do they differ in pose from the WW1 Brit cavalry in helmet ?
the torpedo boat looks easy enough to scratch build with balsa and card.

The US cavalry have got a rifle held vertically, as opposed to the Brits which have a lance.
Hi Leon
Thanks for the info, if they are basically the British cavalry but with different equipment then I can see them being used for Yeomanry or LDV in my VBCW campaign :D.
Cheers

As a point of interest, when exactly did British Cavalry ditch the lance ? And... was it the general issueweapon of all Brit horse by late WW1 ? I only ask because I remember reading war diarys in IWM of Brit Dragoons encountering "Ulans" at Mons (1914) and the Dragoons had sabres and SMLEs at the start of the war. They were gleeful about how unwiedly the lance was in a mele - bit like French lancers at Waterloo!
So did post war Brit cavalry have the lance ?
I agree with GOM, Yanks make useful cavalry figures - another sale Leon !

well before WWI, havent got an exact date.....

Ok, so if we have established that Brit Cavalry (1914-18) were not issued with the lance, but carried sabre and SMLE Mk III, how do we have BP4 with a lance ? And is there any chance of a new accurate figure for the period?
Sunray
According to the Osprey British Cavalry Equipments 1800-1941 the lance was relegated to a ceremonial weapon in 1903. However 6 years later the lance was reinstated as a weapon of war and remained one until 1927
There are a couple of photos of 1914 British Cavalry with lances eg http://www.oz.net/~markhow/16th-a.gif
Thanks mate - good hard information with decent source material. and a nice image- with SD caps, probally early war.
When you think about it Cavalry in this ere were titled 'Dragoons' , 'Hussars' and ...'Lancers', not to mention Household and various TA squadrons of yeomanry.
Would it be correct to assume that the Lancers would have retained the lance and the rest would be sabre and rifle ?

Logic - in the BRITISH ARMY, well there could be a first time.
IanS
Quite Ian ! Although the case in this instance may rest on "TRADITON" - which is the pillar the British Army revolves around.
Which explains in the 1970s, we were the last infantry to wear "putties" - howbeit wrapted tight to the ankle and not up the leg.
I well remember the RSM scowling at my Doc Martins ! " No high boots in this regiment Laddie - get your DMS back on "
Sunray out
Least the puttees gave some ankle support, unlike the anklets I wuz given. Bought me own puttees.
