Hi
Anybody got the gurkhas from the NWF colonial range.
Was wondering how many poses in a bag and what kind of poses they are.
I`m presuming they have those funny little round hats on.
Cheers
Jim
Hi Jim
I'm just painting up the Gurkhas from the NWF range and I would recommend them for the colonial era. I've got so far as basing them, painting the main colours and just started putting on the details.
(http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee479/Dickie255/ABCD0011.jpg) Sorry, the photo ain't great as its from my mobile but considering my ability with technology its a bloody miracle I've got pasted here at all! =)
Cheers
From what I can make out one is advancing with fixed bayonet and the other is running carrying his rifle is that right.
Are there any officers in with that .
Jim

I am sourcing German type See Battalion (Marines) in tropical dress - Do you happen to have any images of Colonial in sun helmets and bush caps with brim folded up ?

Hello Sunray
If you have a look at this guy's figures of the British infantry from the Sudan range, they're excellent http://thetrojanbunny.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-first-10mm-sudan-unit.html (http://thetrojanbunny.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-first-10mm-sudan-unit.html) and are far better pictures than
any of mine ;D
The British figures from the NWF and Boer range are very similar except they wear puttees instead of gaiters and some the webbing/back packs are different. There are also some German figures in the WW1 middle East range listed as German Colonial troops that might suit your needs? But I haven't seen them
Regarding figures with folded bush hats, sorry I can't help you there but the Middle East range Australians might do?
He`s used the zulu war british and painted them khaki and very nice they are too.
I`ve got the brits and sikhs from the 1890`s nwf range and I`m using them for 1879-1902.
I know the backpacks are slighly different but in 10mm I`m not that pickey.
I can now use my stuff for the sudan/egypt, boer war and afghanistan while only buying one army with a few add ons like the gurhas.

Very many thanks - what codes did he use ? I was thinking about yeomany for the bush hats
Sorry, I have just read Jim's post and see he identifies them as" Zulu war British painted khaki". I trust they will blend with the WW1 range in terms of height and style ??
By the way, we 20th century gamers have discovered a 1/150 gunboat (see thread) which is based on a Chinese vessel built in a Japanese yard in 1904.
Lots of colonial potential I should think.
Many thanks for your help.

Yeah, I use alot of the WW1's figures (Indian lancers & Infantry, Brit Officers, Brit. Middle east cavalry, casualities) and some other figures from different ranges (pack mules, wagons, dead markers) with my colonial Brits and there's no problem for me.

I've a similar intention for a multi purpose army to "show the flag" around a fictional colonial campaign.
Thanks for the info about the gun boat
Wot`s your campaign based on.
Hi Jim
QuoteWot`s your campaign based on.
In regards of the mechanics of the game? Its will be a solo campaign using Imperial Splendour by Computer Strategies and Punitive Campaign by Terry Preen. The rules are Colonial Adventures by 2 hour Wargames but I'm in the process of adapting them to my own needs.
In terms of historical references, it's set in the NWF and then will move onto to the Sudan around the 1898 period. Everything will be fictional inspired by the Jarania campaign www.britishempire.co.uk
May I ask about your campaign, in regards of the rules etc you are using? Thanks
Hi
I haven`t got a campaign yet , but I fancy doing one for the 2nd Afghan war using Battles for empire.
I`ve going to base it on the units I have and not a particular battle but fancy the later part of the war as all my stuff is in khaki.
I will have
10 units of Afghan regular Infantry
3 units of Afghan regular cavalry
3 regular artillery
27 units of tribesmen/ghazi infantry
4 units tribal cavalry
3 tribal artillery
Facing them will be;
4 units british infantry
2 units of Highlanders
5 units of indian infantry
2 units british lancers
2 units Indian lancers
3 mountain guns.
so you can see why I need some gukhas to even it out a bit.
I want to keep it simple so I`m open to Ideas.
Jim
Hi Jim
Looks really good! Actually, I now thinking of getting some of the regular Afghan army to add to mine (bloody hell! Another wish list/order :'()
I read somewhere recently some guy who had added a number of differing units in his army that he would swop them around to add a bit of variety to his gaming battles rather than fielding the same every time. I was thinking of having a number of 'flying columns' of Imperial troops comprised of British and Indian troops, similar to your list, embarking on patrols/missions across my fictional campaign map.
I've written an Order of Battle not based on anything historical but inspired by the NWF campaign by Donald Featherstone in his book Wargame Camapigns. I would recommend this book as a good source of information and inspiration as well as his one on solo wargaming (also including a NWF scenario). But saying all that I've been working on it for over a year and have yet to play anything ;D but I think thats most of the fun doing the research, reading etc.
I hope that's of some use but please let me know if you need anymore
