Title: Smaller packs
Post by: Last Hussar on 14 June 2011, 11:04:20 PM
This

made me think.

Inflation happens.  One day Dave is going to have to put up prices again.  What would people prefer
30 men at (say for the sake of argument easy maths) £3.60
OR
28 men at £3.36

30 at £3.90 (one day it will happen)
OR
27 at £3.51

etc

(option 3 - Leon drinks less Krug is just too inhumane to consider :P)

I would vote for a raise in prices over a packaging change. The other day, while grocery shopping, I noticed how manufacturers keep packaging less and less for the same price (or higher prices). I felt like there was a bit of dishonesty in such practices. I am smart enough to know that the cost to do business rises and so must go the retail prices. Two days later, I heard a radio news story that talked about how breakfast cereal boxes were getting smaller and the manufacturers having done so after being faced with raising prices or reducing content. An "expert" talked about the businesses understanding a possible loss of customer confidence by such decisions, but decided to do so anyway. The analysis left me feeling like my thoughts were vindicated, and that my loss of trust in the manufacturers was not a one-off opinion.

We wouldn't reduce pack size, as we'd still have to spin the mould the same, we'd just end up putting more figures back in the melting pot.  So there'd be no financial/labour gain for us.

On the subject in general, I've noticed a lot of products getting smaller over the years.  I remember when some of the bottled beers went down from 330ml to 275ml, but the price from the brewery stayed the same.    I also used to be partial to a Cadbury's Caramel muffin, which was nearly 600 calories of goodness.  You get one now and it's about half the size.   >:(

The discussion is now pointless due to your moulds!

However, given (unlike Mars Bars) it would be easier to tell - you post the content count on each page - I wondered what people would prefer (if they had a choice, which they won't AND THATS WHAT THE NAZIS DID... sorry too much reading other websites)

Stick with the existing pack sizes they work too well for unit building as they are. Plus Pendraken still have a long way to go until they're as expensive as others out there.
