I am currently building a 10mm scale river gun boat. Need weapons. The Boer war 6" is an obvious mounting, and looks well.
Question - is the Boerwar Pom Pom similar/same as to the Royal Navy AA weapon system of the same name?
Any images of the casting on any threads ?

Gets bad when you answer your own threads. However, I needed an answer and from the number of viewers, the topic is of some interest. So a wee bit of research threw up these answers.
The Boer war pom pom is a machine gun on steroids - 37mm /I pdr Nordenfelt-Maxim to be exact - it just looks like a big MG on wheels
The later naval version was heavier - a 2pdr - and up to eight barrels in one mounting.
So back to the drawing board for AA weapons on my river boat ! Might mount a bofors on the naval mount I built for the MGBs.

This is the sort of thing you're after.

The German version was used initially by the Boers, and it wasn't until mid-1900 (i think) that the British shipped out about 50-60 for use (mounted as field artillery).
They were largely ineffective against the Boers, given the Boer battle tactics of cunningly deciding 'not to be seen'.
I understand it was a 'weapon in search of a role' throughout its short life, deployed ineefectively against German aircraft and zepellins during WWI (the 1lb shell passing harmlessly though the canvas of both and not exploding until it fell back to earth!
It could be done however and Lieutenant O.F.J. Hogg of No. 2 AA Section in III Corps was the first anti-aircraft gunner to shoot down an aircraft, with 75 rounds on 23 September 1914 in France (History of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Anti-Aircraft Artillery, 1914â€"55 - Brigadier N.W. Routledge, London: 1994)
Still it looks jolly cool!!

Interestingly you mention the later 2lbQF cannon. Apparently this was mounted on British WWI planes as a trial weapon before the adoption of the MG!
Hello Sunray
Have you considered the AA guns mounted on the WW1 trucks, here is Nik Harwood's very well painted version of the British truck:-

They may well be available separately for a special project :). May be a bit smaller than the Bofors in the British WW2 range.
Cheers

There's some pictures of Pom Poms in this thread, too. Not what you're looking for, though. Then again, why not? 8->

Apologies on that one, I do read every post, but I sometimes mark them as 'Unread' to come back to later.
No apology needed! It was me being lazy and hoping to find some secondry arms for my gun boat. Anyway, the Boer war pom pom kindly posted by Luddite looks the deal gun for a commission scratch build on a 10mm picket boat - based on the hull of a 25mm Airfix pontoon . So I learned something.
The naval battery might be avilable in 1/144 - those dear boys who build 1/144 warships and then sink them in real water !
Thanks for dealing promptly on my request for 6" guns.

No worries. 8)
Actually if any forum members scratch builds 10mm ships/large boats, a good source in a close scale (1/144) is www.hrprod.com -
They have ladders, deck fittings, and .....2pdr Quad pom poms.
Some of these I have used on the Pendraken Flower class corvette. Great wee model.
