Now I know figure poses are very much a personal thing, and I don't really like complaining, but some recently purchased figures got me thinking.
Let's take GR 243; German Early War WW2 officers. I now have 10 identically posed chaps ; standing in a pretty formal pose and saluting. Am I alone in thinking this is a pretty odd pose for a figure that most people will want to use to lead combat troops?
And then there's AH1; Austrian WW1 Riflemen. In my packet of 30 figures I got 3 nicely posed officers, 16 riflemen in an advancing/charging pose and 14 riflemen kneeling in a kind of reserve pose. Now the bonus figures were nice and each of the figures individually is very well done. But how do I use them? Putting some advancing and some kneeling figures on the same base is going to look odd. Ditto having some bases of entirely kneeling figures. (I can just about cope with bases of identically posed charging chaps) It's a bit frustrating because there are limited options.
Is it too much to suggest that outside artillery crews and the like "no kneelers" instruction should go out to the sculptors? An exception could be made for shooting figures where kneeling figures would fit in.

The kneeling thing gets to me too. I have WWII Brits and Germans most of which are in fairly active poses except the Bren gunner and man with panzerfaust both of which are kneeling. They just don't look quite right on the same base with advancing figures IMHO. The Officer packs have 2 poses one of which is kneeling in both cases, but not so much of an issue there as they can be used with MG/Mortar teams as well as Command Groups where they fit in Ok. Prone figures lead to similar issues but there are useable alternatives for the MG34 teams in the DAK and EW range.
I'm not quite sure what to offer on this one. We don't get too strict with our designers regarding poses, they have quite a lot of free-reign in that department, and so far I think they've produced great figures. We could look at limiting the kneeling poses, and maybe keeping all poses correct in a combat environment I suppose?
On the Austrians, we can always supply more of one pose than the other, if it'll help make organising the bases easier.
Must admit that I prefer troops in an "advancing" pose. The one that gets me is standing firing like the WWI British I sold at Derby. Not used except by fireing squads since 1850.

I rather like the mix of different poses and increase it by building units from several packs in the same range.
So for instance my WW1 British Infanry battalions have 48 figures in them and I'll have advancing shooting, kneeling, bomb throwing, and Lewis gunners all spread through the companies, the overall effect looks pretty good.
What I would like is a range of WW1 figures laying down and/or just head and shoulders firing which would allow me to have battalions advancing and replace them with prone figures when they get pinned or need to indicate that they have dug in and are holding a position.

GR243 which figure is this ... not on list ! if you mean 221 this is a radio op holding headset, only early war german officer is 220 pointing with mp40, who is platoon leader hence mp40 and pointing.

Tommy kneels to take a pot shot as his mates run for cover, stick a bit of bush in front of him and you have a whole little scene running through your head...
