I haven't read a novel for ages and have been ploughing through various history books because i cant find anything in fiction that takes my interest at the moment. So i need some help - whats your must-read, favourite, once-you-pick-it-up-you-cant-put-it-down-again novel ? Doesn't have to be military or gaming related but it helps !!!!
Neal Asher - Prador Moon.
Fantastic hard sci-fi.
Or... Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief, you should read it in an afternoon!
"The War Hound and the World's Pain" and "The City in the Autumn Stars", Michael Moorcock's Von Bek books are my favourites

Have you read any of the Colonel Pyat novels by Moorcock (Byzantium Endures for eg)?

I have them all but only read the first one, which was great fun. My "to read" pile has shot up since I no longer use public transport to get to work :(
Jack Cammbells Lost Fleet series is a good one.

Quite. Add everything by Philip Roth and you're good for this summer.

Just starting the 'Radetzky March'.
Try anything by Conn Iguldon. His Julius Caesar quartette is history written as a thriller. Unputdownable! 8)
Ditto Mary Renault's 'The Alexander trilogy' if you're of a Macedonian persuasion.
Vernor Vinge; A fire upon the Deep, or his A Deepness in the Sky. Both are really outstanding hard SF written by a professor of physics.
Dan Simmons books: Hyperion, the fall of Hyperion, Endymion and the rise of Endymion. Stunning SF novels, really! Mysteries, theology, spy-story and exciting battle scenes all mixed togheter! I love this SF cycle. My nick come from one of the novel characters.

Yeah, if they ever make a wargame of them I want to be the Shrike :d

:D But the Shrike is a bit unballanced in game. Better the Colonnel Kassad and his "death teams" ;). Sometimes I thought how replicate Hyperion universe in wargames but what rules and miniatures? :-\
