Title: Batrep HOTT
Post by: Arsenus on 27 March 2011, 01:07:47 PM
http://arsenus.blog.free.fr/index.php?post/2011/03/27/Rapport-de-bataille-Hordes-Of-The-Things-%28HOTT%29

My first batrep with HOTT rules!

The translation:
Here is the first report of battle Hordes Of The Things (HOTT)

Army of Monkeys Samurai: 1 item swashbuckler General (Samurai) 1 item lancer (Lancers) 1 drawer element (Archer) 1 element Knights (White Tiger) 1 item jumpers (Samurai mounted with arches)

Army of Amazons 1 item swashbuckler General (Warrior) 1 item lancer (Javelineers) 1 drawer element (Archer) 1 item knights (Centaurs with spears) 1 item jumpers (centaurs with bows)

Deployment

First round: Nothing special mounted samurais go ahead to work around the flanks of the enemy, the Tigers are doing the same thing. The Amazons are trying a similar tactic.

Second round: Seeing the with spears Centaurs approaching the mounted samurai conduct a prudent retreat. For their part, the Tigers advance to meet the Centaurs archers. The rest comes forward quietly.

Third round: The Centaurs archers get rid of the Tigers who had loaded easily. The Lancers are moving to change sides.

Fourth round: The Amazons vise tightens. The generals have launched a dual sterile while the archers are back each other. Centaurs with spears destroy the Lancers came to meet them.

Fifth round: The centaur with spears literally crush the archers soon after they annihilated the Javelineers. Samurai General sounded the retreat as losses are too great! Victory of the Amazons

Debriefing: The rules are really simple to pick up despite some blurring in the translation. I'm sure I forgot some stuff but hey, it's really nice as anything. I do it again a pleasure. The party lasted 30 minutes in total, including installation! And that's cool!

10mm are greats for HotT basing, they looks better on battlefield. You played with only 5 elements instead use "standard" 24 army points... why? I like your water scenics.

Thank you! I like them too. I'm working on a swamp and a road to make more interesting battlefield.

Why? It's very simple!
First, I was alone to play so it is much easier to learn rules to play with little numbers of elements.
Second, I don't have enough elements to play it with 24 army points!^^
That is why I have prepared an big order, I will send it when my banker will tell me yes!^^

That's nice looking little scrap there arsenus: I do the same as you when I'm trying to learn rules - play with some nice small forces to get used to the core mechanics  :)

I've got HoTT somewhere - will have to dig it out for a read...

Oh mate - that sounds great - how do you fancy coming over to Nikfest '11 [& making sure that Pruneau behaves himself - and isn't just the token European  ;) ;D]?

As long as you still have the best wine, Cognac, food & cigarettes in the world, we'll be fine  ;)

I am the smae start with a small number of figures (with the dino hunting etc that isnt hard lol) I remember once having about 150 stands of 15mm figures out and trying to learn the rules, it didnt work...so next time we dropped it to half a dozen and worked through them that way...ahhhhh the good ol WRG 5th edition  :D

You gotta love the simplicity of a HOTT setup.  Looking like you had a nice battle there, Arsène!  :D  However, if you field the amazons, you have to zoom in more!  I happen to have a few of them lying around and - well - you just have to  :D

Arsenus in the next games keeps some elements in groups, so you can deep understand the fundamentals rules about supports and overlaps. These rules are the keys of victory in HotT. Also the groups of elements give you the capacity to spend less PIP in game turn. Have fun!!

Yeah! Thanks I have them in mind but I was concentrated in tactical movements et combat. Next time, groups and flyers will be in priority!

Here the same battle but with a good stuff!^^

I had a little trouble to understand because you have to pay attention to the measures (some are made in millimeters and others in inches), the size of the bases (corresponding to the size of a base of A single fig) and above all it is important to note the progress of the battle and not go too fast!

Very well done Sir!  I'm a fan of HOTT but it had never struck me to use fewer units in getting to grips with the rules, so all attempts have used 24 point armies - Doh!  :O) An inspirational post, merci bien.
