Ebay has now forced all sellers to use "Simple Delivery"
The delivery service seems to either be chosen by the buyer or by E-bay.
I recently sold rulebooks on e-bay and the parcel was forced to go using the In-Post service. It was delivered to a locker. The buyer was unable to open the locker using the code or the QR scan.
The locker was at a Shell garage being refurbished so no one onsite to give access.
The buyer did not manage to contact In-Post to remotely open his locker in time.
The options now seem to be, and I cannot find out which will happen, nor do I seem to have any say in this.
1 The item is returned to me and I am charged return postage costs – And possibly the seller will be auto refunded from my account – or it may be down to me to refund, less the cost of the return postage to me.
Or
2. The item is deemed uncollected and disposed of by In-Post. – And possibly the seller will be auto refunded from my account – or it may be down to me again to decide if I refund.
POSSIBLE WAY ROUND THIS [/b
When initially listing the item, set the price as £800 or more. This is too high for ebay to implement "Simple Delivery" and you get set the service and the cost.
You thensave the listing and go onto your selling page of listings and edit the cost using the "current price column". It then stays with your delivery method and cost.
You can also edit your existing listings up to £800 and this will again circumvent the Simple delivery. And again you go onto your selling page of listings and edit the cost using the "current price column".
Ebay however will add an additional postage charge to the buyer. (eg you put £4.00 postage, the buyer will have to pay £4.80)
I have managed to do this but nothing has sold yet, so waiting to see if a default kicks in
I just use my own postage option, ie, walk to the post office and post it there.
I'm refusing to use Ebay's pre-paid labels, as I have no printer nor smartphone, and claim a refund for the label they do send me. Okay, the post office price is more than the Ebay price, but I'd rather my local post office stays open than have it close due to corporate capture. I'm also listing all my items post free, and factor that into the selling price.
If abuse of the English language was a criminal offence, Ebay would be in jail. Simple Delivery, it is not >:(
I've had one eBay seller sending me two packages who when Evri scanned them they mislaid one parcel and another seller where two items were sent to me via Royal Mail tracked rather than one to me and one to another buyer.
So it's not a great system.

I've used the cheaper delivery option of collecting some items from our local corner shop, but no longer, as everything is just chucked together and you have to search through it all to find your own package, which you have no idea of what packaging it's in etc.
As I am currently listing "photography stuff I don't use that's taking up space under the bed" on fleabay, I'd like to point out that it is possible to specify which 'simple delivery service' you want to use (or not). I by default turn off the In Post service
In the app, there's an option below the simple delivery bit, you have to scroll down a little. Sure it is there on the desktop version too.
There's the odd time it doesn't give you the option (I think it is when it's a large letter but not 100% sure)

(You can always list it, then edit the listing to tweak it to your liking rather than Fleabay's default settings - it's easier to edit the listing than do it when listing tbh)
This is what I do as well on the desktop version. I only use Royal Mail and have a very good relationship with the bloke on the desk in our local sorting office.
THanks to Radar and Sunjester I have found the option.
