As the cold weather finally starts to lift, this month we're asking, what are your Top 3 Holiday destinations?
:-\
1) Atlantic Canada
2) South Germany
3) Scottish Highlands
1 - Upper Austria and the Attersee. Simply stunning and no tourists :).
2 - Any of the quiet Greek Islands.
3 - The Gower.
Venice
Tuscany
Brittany
Redcar
1 - Orlando
I like a lot of other destinations but I cant justify adding them to my top 3 :)
1. Chicago
2. Seattle
3. Kansas City
Yep - I love going to America!
Cheers,
Kev

Black Forest (D)
Sierra Nevada (E)
Emilia Romagna (I)
Pruneau - i'm planning to drive through the black forest and stay overnight on my way home from hols this summer - could you point me at some interesting areas to stay or visit (preferably not bigger towns)? would be most grateful if you could
There is only one big town:
Freiburg im Breisgau. It's a wonderful place though.
Three smaller very nice towns:
Freudenstadt (huge townsquare with a brewery on it where you can eat Flaemmenkuechen with black beer)
Baden-Baden (lovely little town with a great mix of old chic and modern squares, parks and lots of green)
Calw: town on the slope of a hill, excellent cuisine
Other nice spots:
Titisee Altstadt: Very touristic, but in an old-fashioned way: a nice swimming lake, nice wine pubs, kitsch stores and an area lovely to drive around in
Mummelsee: Up north, mountain lake with a nice pub, no swimming here though, boating, walking
Schaffhausen am Rhein: technically not Black Forest: 25 km south in Switzerland: magnificent waterfall along the Rhine. Must see.
Triberg waterfall: nice very long waterfall you can walk alongside of
Kaiserstuhl: the local wine area
You can stay just about everywhere: most farms have guest rooms, Gaestezimmer, and whenever we stay there we see a lot of impromtu lodging: there is always a room available somewhere, tourism has been much reduced lately with exotic destinations becoming so commonplace. A very nice road to follow south to north is the Schwarzwaldstrasse, a road meandering through the forest along the tops of the hills. Other area's that are nice: Simonswaldertal (best Black Forest Cake), Waldkirch.
Derby
Sheffield
St Helens
Guess the dates......
NOT EVER ANY WAY S. London.
IanS
1: New Zealand
2: Lake District
3: Scotland
There seems to be a theme here.
1. Alilkes on the Island of Zakynthos
2. Kefalonia.
3. Would be another Greek Island but have only been to the above two so I'll have to plump for India (haven't been there either but would love to visit).

Ankh-Morpork: luvvit - how coolio would that be? I'd stand you all a drink at The [Broken] Mended Drum 8)
They've closed the lapdancing club in Boro... :'( Apparently the girls were getting 'too close' to the customers and 'exposing themselves'... :-\ :o
sounds just like most other pubs in Boro Leon.
I was disappointed when they closed the topless chippy in Redcar

You mean you came all the way from beautiful Durham to visit Redcar.... :o Surely there's nicer coastal locations further north!
Do they still have black sea and sand on the Durham coast?

Not by choice old chap. My employer has a major site at Bran Sands...
QuoteDo they still have black sea and sand on the Durham coast?
I don't think so, the mines which used to dump waste on the coast have all closed and a lot of work's been done to recover the area.

The coast's better but it's a shame to see anonther slice of our great industrial heritage just wiped away :D
