Title: Can I really say "finished"?
Post by: fsn on 10 October 2025, 03:38:16 PM
I have been painting my Spanish Napoleonic army for some months, and am nearing the end. (True Wargames can see what's coming.)

It is based on la Romana's division. My big armies for this period average 820 infantry and 170 cavalry, plus 4-5 two gun batteries. On this premise, I have created a Spanish force of 3 infantry regiments of 3 battalions each*, 1 light infantry battalion, 2 Cavalry regiments, 2 dragoons regiments and 3 artillery batteries. 720 infantry, 160 cavalry and 3 batteries

So far so good.

Buttttt - and it's a big butt - I look at the full OOB for la Romana, and see I'm just one infantry regiment, 1 light infantry battalion, 1 cavalry regiment and 1 battery short of the full division.

To field the full division I just need another 288 infantry, 40 cavalry and 1 battery. Total 1008 infantry, 200 cavalry, 4 batteries.  The Franco-Allied force for the same period and theatre is 1008/130/4.

I'm really tempted to go that extra mile and add those missing units.  :-\

*Usually Spanish infantry regiments only fielded 2 battalions, but la Romana took the depot battalion at full strength as well.

I'm not sure why you are procrastinating by typing out all the above. You know what you will do.

Don't listen to Last Hussar, he still has not bought the Prussians.

You can until one of the following occur:-

1, Someone brings out some "really nice" figures that are better than the ones you own.
2, You find a scenario where I need more forces than You currently have.
3, You see some really cheap in a Bring and buy or on Ebay
4, You change the ruleset you use for this particular period , or another version comes out where I need more figures
5, You decide that You really do need another nationalities army or more figures for this period/Army.
6, You go on Pthe Pendraken Website late at night after a few beers and decide that a You need more Spanish Napoleonics.

From what you have said a Item number 5 has occured so yes you definitely need to buy the extra figures.

M'lady is needing to be kept in the manner she would like to become accustomed, and its your responsibility to help the Dark Lord do this.

So it looks like you need another couple of Spanish army packs.  :)

Picking up on 5) ... I've done the 3 regiments in white coats - but there's the older blue in evidence.  :-\

Surely one regiment in blue couldn't hurt?

FSN

You don't need any more figure. You already have more than enough. Relax and enjoy what you have.

So, not the whole thing then?
Where are the rest of them?

I have come to the decision to start painting the Anglo-Portuguese, and then I have Joseph's Spanish all bought and ready to go.

So for the rest of la Romana - probably Christmas.

Yes but first he/she has to aknowledge they are an addict. - You wont find many any who admit it here.
