Title: Fighting withdrawal at Beaumont (Franco-Prussian War)
Post by: Chris Pringle on 29 September 2025, 07:07:03 PM
This was a fun one in which both sides managed to misread/neglect the victory conditions. Unfortunate, given that a fighting withdrawal has different conditions from the usual attack/defence situation ... anyway, it gave us a good game with the usual mix of frustration, excitement, and last-turn drama. Dunno about that - we left a lot of troops behind, inflicted a decent number of casualties but fewer than we suffered (just like the historical event). Probably about par, so a draw was the right game result.

But you didn't get caught in your camo, or charge cuirassiers down a high street

Getting caught in camp was part of the set-up - all of Mark's corps had to start the game Disrupted.

Bringing 12th Corps's cuirassiers across the Meuse and getting them wiped out to no purpose was our own fault. Their appearance was too brief to make it on camera!
