Title: Slimline Box Files
Post by: Orcs on 28 August 2025, 10:50:07 PM
I have stored quite a lot of my wargames collection in Card/wood Box Files.  I do not like the plastic ones

Just been looking to purchase some 45mm Deep (spine) Slimline box files. Now they are significantly thinner than the standard Bbox file of 75mm ............But why the heck are they more than twice the price?

Also since the demise of Staples I can only seem to find them in bulk buys of 10. I Only want 5 max

10 slimline files from Viking are just over £45. The 75mm ones are only £25, and to add insul;t to injury, you can buy them individually  >:(  >:(  >:(

Unfortunately all I can do is confirm this is what I have found.

As such I've pretty much moved away from box files to Really Useful Boxes with MDF tray inserts in them. It's a bit more expensive, but the density of figures is higher, and the consistency of the storage is much higher.

With box files there are two sizes as well as the two depths and I've acquired a few of the bigger ones without really noticing, until they are all stacked together and it can become quite hard to fit ones in or out of the stack.

OK - they're plastic.

I too, use RUB.

Yeah, I went to 9 an4 litr RUB with the 3x5 trays in. Also people such as Commission do trays for wargamers, I can get up to 5 in a 9l

Unfortunately I have a lot of figures on the slim line boxes as this is the most efficient way to store some of my collection. 9l RUB with 45mm trays would only take 3 trays, and are about an inch higher than the 3 slimline box files.
They would also be quite eavy and inefficient when transporting a platoon.

The second problem is the trays by Commision figurines that I have used a lot of ( I tend to order a dozen at a time), are not as efficient for storing 20mm platoons. I have tried it and it takes 1.5 trays to store a platoon you can get in a single s45mm boxfile. So would actually take up 50% more space. Let alone the sorting out.

Nice box files FSN, but if you look at their construction they are very flimsy and only designed for holding documents. You certainly could not stack them with figures in.

I did just win an auction on Ebay for 5 that already have maganabase in them for less than the cost of 5 new ones. So Problem solved for now.

Thanks for the help guys

Those examples are not box files. They are similar in function if you are storing documents but no use for storing figures.

Personally I do use plastic boxes - A4 size from Weston Boxes in 2 depths but probably only the deeper one suitable for 15mm foot. The slimline one is ideal for 2-6mm (and some 10mm foot) and ships. I magnetise all my bases and a Ferrosheet lining keeps them in place nicely. Very space saving and cheap if you wait for their sales on seconds. Only downside is you have to buy them in bulk (about 40 per box).

They look very useful, especially their box staks. I have bookmarked their page.

Thanks Tony
