Title: BKCI - Western Desert - Battle at the Oasis
Post by: Duke Speedy of Leighton on 24 August 2025, 10:46:47 PM
*Waits for band jokes*

Mark & Dave wanted another go at BKC before they fly solo the week after next, so sides were swapped, extra CO stands added, and forces adjusted to new points. Terrain came out the box, and the Brits rolled onto table. While I swung the 139th Borcesters up the left of middle, supported by the three Crusaders. My (yet to be named) CO brought on two platoons of the Guards in Uniersal Carriers, a Humber A/C, and a truck with the HMG and mkII 3" Mortar platoon stands on my left, who rolled a '2' headed to the ruined village at the oasis as quickly as possible.

Where is rest of the armour you ask? Those oh-so-useful Mk13s?
Well, they blundered their deployment roll!
Seriously!

Thankfully, they rolled a 5 and were only delayed a turn. The Commander of the 4th & 9th Hussars is currently undergoing a 'HARD STARE (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/HWIee7fmQg8)'

Thankfully, the 2lber Portees and the Crusaders made very short work of the Panzer IIIHs that were tasked to deal with them.

Meanwhile, the Germans under David failed to move much, at all, (blunder causing the CO to lose CV for two atiations, then one turn they rolled a 10 with a 9 commander, then the CO with a CV10, rolled 11), eventually, the 'door knockers' deployed, at long range in the flank of my A13s.

My plan, concentrate on the left, kill stuff. Mark tried to bring two platoons of DAK out to left, while supporting fire hits troops on the on the other side of the Oa/is, but my Mortars, MMGs and Guards halted them, and killed an unsupported stand moving off the rocky ground.
Meanwhile the 4th/9th Dragoons arrived and moved on from the right towards the left, concentrating all my troops on the Oasis firefight.

Mark & David discuss plans, while Phillip plays behind them.
I had lost an A13, a crusader, one Portee unit and both my Universal Carriers.
The Germans had lost all 5 of their tanks, plus a serious amount of infantry! Their assult on the Oasis was stalling out, especially as they were struggling to shft my troops from the Oasis buildings. Mark could not bring enough firepower.

At the end of turn 8, the Germans were really struggling to get anywhere. They had been drawn into the  Oasis area, where the Guards and HMG/Mortar were dealing with anything soft that movved, while, despite some losses, the Crusaders were able to assist. The A13s had lost two bases to Pak36 fire, but they had done their job and had helped take out the German armour. British claimed a minor victory

Phillip gifted me some to scale palm trees, which graced the table as a thicket.

This week, we try a 'hasty assult'.

Good stuff.

I see intermittent sand storms are still a problem! what ever is up with your camera is odd in the way it comes and goes between photos.

QuoteIf you look at my kens
I'm sorry are you allowed to ask that!!

If it is water / dampness in the lens then not sure what is the best way to try to dry it - rice is worth trying, or even just putting on a radiator or other heat source to see if will evaporate - the challenge is know where a gap is the water vapour can get out of. Google can be your friend here as undoubtedly someone else has already had the same problem with your model of phone

Remove lens, clean with surgical spirits, reattach lens

Not a job I would trust myself with, might just be easier to get a new phone (it's a Google 4, second hand, so tells you the vintage).
