Title: 28mm WWII US Vehicles
Post by: bigjackmac on 08 June 2025, 11:48:29 PM
All,

I wanted to show you my US Army vehicles for fighting the Axis powers in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations and the European Theater of Operations.  Not a lot of vehicles here, but what there is should suffice to get me through the stuff I want to do and, unlike most of the other vehicle sets, this one was mostly painted by me.

I wasn't really sure how to go about painting 28mm vehicles, and I started out using Contrast paints.  It worked okay for some of my British vehicles and the one German tank I did, but I wasn't elated with the results, so I took to Youtube to see if there was a simple method that I might be able to follow, and lo and behold, I found something I'm happy with.  It's actually designed for painting 15mm tanks in a hurry but, from my perspective at least, it worked fine for 28mm, and it was quick and easy, and hell, even kinda fun (while I like painting figures, I really do not enjoy painting vehicles).

So I spray painted everything black, then set to dry brushing.  Started with Oak Brown, then Dark Green, then Brown-Green (dammit, it's a Vallejo Color from the US box but I can't think of the name, did up the tracks, tools, and machine guns (some wood color, black, then highlighted with silver, then hit with a dark wash), then Iraqi Sand.  I'm very happy with the results.

The jeep, a plastic model from Rubicon.  It had more figures but I stole them for the halftracks.

Great work Jack and the addition of the decals at add detail is nice, not something you always see 8) .

Thanks, guys!

Yeah, I've gotten over my fear of decals, now I love them, they make everything look better (even though I don't weather over them).

Jack
