Title: 28mm WWII US Army for Winter from Warlord
Post by: bigjackmac on 08 June 2025, 12:50:26 AM
All,

You've seen my Winter Germans, so time to see my Winter Americans (and soon you'll see my Winter Soviets).  I didn't paint or assemble a single thing in these pics, these all came from "King's Colours" on Ebay.  He does a great job building out a rifle platoon that's pretty close, if not exact, to the TO&E, and he does a great job painting and basing the troops, weapons, and vehicles.  I'd love to buy more stuff from him, but I just don't have any more big forces that I need to buy from him...

Couple officer types.  You can see the size difference between Warlord's plastics (left) and metals (right).

I'm definitely going to buy a couple boxes of these to build a USMC platoon for Chosin Reservoir; I'd have done it already but I can't seem to find any reasonably priced Chinese (Warlord's are metal and come in packs of  10 to 12 troops for around $35 (to put it in perspective, Warlords' plastics are usually about $45 for thirty figures), and that ain't gonna cut it, I need too many of them.  I've priced them as cheap as I can find them and it's coming to about $450 to get around 75 infantry (rifles, SMGs, and LMGs) plus a couple MG teams, mortar teams, and flamethrower teams.  Not gonna cut it, I need someone to do some cheap plastics or 3D printed guys that will come in much cheaper.

All in all another good force, but I want to get a 'regular' machine gun team, and I also need an anti-tank gun to top these guys off.  Then I'll get to my Marines for Korean War ;)

V/R,
Jack

:-bd  =D>  :-bd  =D>

Made me shiver but that may also have something to do with the 7C 44F temperatures and the sun going down at 4:30pm

How are you storing all these?

44 degrees and sun down at 1630!!!???  Forgive me for asking, but where the heck are you at, Paul, Antarctica? ;)

Lemmey - Thanks!

Here's where all the various 28mm forces are (the plastic containers).  Vehicles and terrain are... scattered all over.

And just for reference, here's my 15mm forces, including vehicles.  Terrain is scattered all over the place (you can see the chateau atop one of the stacks of plastic boxes, trees behind it), with most of it under my 8' x 6' table (I only use 6' x 4' because there's always crap scattered over the other half, and I don't really have enough terrain to cover the whole thing).

V/R,
Jack

I'm going to save that photo as evidence that what I have is a perfectly reasonable amount of figures!

To be fair I think my terrain takes up way more storage volume than the figures.

Correct.

Paul and I are based in separate suburbs of Wellington.

It's 6:50am, 2 degrees C and still dark here currently.....

winter is already here  ;)

Your US Army winter forces certainly look the part Jack  :-bd

Those sets of 4 drawer plastic storage containers are great, got a wall full myself.

Ahh, yes, I forgot you guys are Kiwis!

Middle Earth, indeed ;)

Great work Jack and nice to see unshaven faces too, which is a nice touch. As for the figure storage, you have a LOT of stuff! If ever my wife moans, I'll show her your photos ;) !

Sad as I am, I checked location, before I saw 'Wellington' mentioned, so knew either New Zealand, or the bottom of South America. 42s isn't as far south as London is North (52N).
