Steadily working through the rules...
The rule for the Mechanised special ability seems to apply to infantry units "They are not suppressed if forced to dismount by their transport unit being suppressed."
However, in the lists I can only see halftracks given this ability, not infantry.
Obviously I am missing something?
Thanks, Richard
I agree with you.
The Mechanised rule reads as if it applies to Infantry, but is given to half-tracks. I think if you read the rule as applying to Infantry passengers of the half-track it works fine.
Oh the fun we had with our local Mr. Picky over this one, back in the day.
It would make so much more sense if the wording was:
"PASSENGERS are not suppressed if forced to dismount by the transport unit being suppressed."
One for errata and/or a future revision?
EDIT: Post written at about 3am but not posted until 3pm. Should have checked when the forum flagged up that there had been a post in the interim. Consider this post to say "I agree with fred" :)
Yes ... one for the errata - 'Passengers'
Very helpful - but in essence it is a combination of the vehicle and the units carried in it (passengers).
On the subject of mechanised units, given the answer above, this raises the question of how you use Mechanised HTRs which dont have the Transport ability.
For example, German Eastern front has several sd kfz 250 & 251s which are mechanised without being able to transport, and thus dismount, anyone.

It may be an errata - as obviously you can only use mechanised with a passenger capability. I'll check, but all such HTR will only be able to Transport (1) INF: only unit.
So either they are not mechanised or they should be Transport(1).
From a bit of reading, I suspect they should not be mechanised but I haven't checked all of the vehicle types.

It is possible - I need to check the lists in detail.
There were many types of sd kfz half-tracked used by the Germans - and some may just be armed with larger anti-tank weapons. These would not be classified as 'mechanised' as it would be unnecessary.
