Title: MS Excel for Range Sticks
Post by: T13A on 21 February 2025, 10:56:46 AM
Hi

I'm using MS Excel to make some 'range'sticks' for a set of rules; just wondering if anybody knows what the measurments in Excel when resizing a 'cell' equate to in real life (i.e. when I print something out). Currently showing a cell is 5.11 (53 pixels) wide. But 5.11 is what exactly?  :-\  :(

Any help gratefully received!

Cheers Paul

Do you have access to Word? As in it you can define table cells in real world measurements

I don't recall being able to do this in excel.

Old school was 72dpi for screen resolution- which means 72 dots (pixels) per inch.

Yeah, I'd go Word. You can tell the computer how big to make something easily.

Certainly I use Word tables to make Saga dice ship lables. You do have to ensure that the objectwill fit the cells as they will resize to fit it. Also occasionally the object will rotate.

IIRC you can change the dimensional units of cells in Excel. I am not at my desktop but try a search on help or do a google search. I used this feature to make labels using mm dimensions some time ago

I use Open Office rather than MS but it can certainly size cells to a specific mm size. Like d_Guy I use it regularly to make labels for wargames units/ ships/ etc.
