Any suggestions on how best to store 10mm wargame units in cases or shelves...so the units are on display,as well as being accessable?
Good question!
Given the low height and typically solid basing of 10mm figures I think you will need good light and a reasonable distance between shelves to allow viewing.
So you will end up with quite a low density solution.
Doors are pretty essential to stop dust.
If you go for a deep (more than 6") solution I would have trays on the shelves to make getting the figures in and out practical.
IKEA is always a good option.
I think a key factor is just how much shelf space you need / can fit in
When I found the need to pile a lot of stuff high and narrow I got myself an Ikea tall bathroom cabinet.

These generally have a 30-40cm frontage and flexible shelf arrangement.
Drawbacks for display are:
* Solid doors - not transparent.
* around 40cm depth - you won't see much of the chaps at the back.
Some shopping around might locate similar shaped shelving with transparent doors.
I recently bought a couple of glass display cases from a local charity shop. (you will see the type in most charity shops and some have spares). Then use these inside:

There's enough clearance for up to 1/72 infantry as well but not 1/72 flag waving cavalry so they need top spot.
Only snag is being careful when lifting the top tiers straight off to avoid hitting tiers below.
Still a WIP so no useful pic to share.
I found these letter trays on the IKEA website. Have to visit the nearest store for a better look.

Ordered two of these from Amazon.
I like the idea of the sliding bases. Unfortunately, Amazon have hiked the price up on a lot of their stuff.

Put some 1/72 figs and other stuff in to demonstrate the concept.

Those look to work really well, being clear they let in plenty of light :-bd
I hope the cases will be out of direct sunlight, I would hate the flags or paint to fade over time
