Title: VBCW - Hello, Hello, Hello - Policemen impersonators
Post by: GrumpyOldMan on 28 February 2011, 09:54:46 PM
Hi

I was just wondering what figures would be best for impersonating 1930s police from the Colonial ranges. I'm looking for short gaiters that I can putty over and minimum kit. Any suggestions for mounted police as well would be welcome. Also I'm seriously considering a Colonial gun team with the gun replaced by a WW1 13 pounder, any suggestions on what would be the best code to use?

Cheers, thanks for any help.

Not sure what would work for those.

I've used ww1 germans in piclklehelm as police, mixed in with a few peaked cap ww1 british. Once the paints on and the suspension of belief kicks in you'll never know :-[

I suppose some of the colonial troops may work, but I don't know what they look like.

Hello RoT

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping somebody caught in the throes of cross-period angst could let me know what was closer, maybe I have to ask on the Historical threads. I'll let you know how I get on - you may want a police 37mm AT gun of your own one day  ;D.

Cheers

There are two types of helemt - the "tit" with a spike and comb with a great big ridge. Either can be done from Piklehaube or Toppee. In all cases you need ot hide long boots or putees. Badges would be black on very very dark blue, capes comon (which would hide the webbing), and pre war all but Scotish forces had plain caps with an arm band on the left? arm in dicing to indicate on duty. Many forces had customised weapons, Liverpool city for instance had it's own revolvers and shot guns. Rifles would be very rare.

I can testify that they do look rather good.

As ianrs54  suggests, solar Topees would stand in well, eg Zulu War or Boer war British in pith helmets.

Have a look at the Republican codes in SD (peaked) type caps in SCW range.
