Hi all
How would you approach this? It is down to whether you count formations or count heads.
The Blucher rules at Grand Scale says a unit 3-5,000 men @ 6-9 battalions
The Old Guard at Leipzig is 6,250 men in 8 battalions.
Would you go with 2 units, or one with 'overstrength' bonus?
Hmmm. This is why I don't do big battles.
I don't do Blucher, but I would think about what I want the Guard to be.
One unit would be stronger (presumably) but two units would allow a bit more flexibility in deployment.
I would want my Guard to steamroller, so would go for the chunky single unit.
Again, don't know how the rules work, but if supporting units can help with morale I'd go with two.
Hope that helps. :)
The number of men is the more precise figure. Battalions vary in size a lot more than men do.
Hi
Big fan of the Blucher rules but have only ever played at the recommended scale of 2000-3000 men in 4-6 battalions.
Personally I'd probably go for 2 units and consider one of them being 'understrength'.
Cheers Paul
T13A, it's all exactly the same, just that lot there is 4000 men, not 2500! Otherwise all exactly the same.
I'm currently on the 2 units, it's partly as 2x 3100, so just in the limit, but partly I want the Guard to have a presence. They get better stats, it feels right the Guard have a presence as well.
