Title: From Pike to Shot 1685 to 1720
Post by: pierre the shy on 05 October 2024, 09:58:43 PM
"From Pike to Shot 1685 to 1720" by Charles Stuart Grant was published by WRG back in 1986, and it contains a lot of useful information for the late C17 and early C18 period.

Picked up a copy for $2 several years ago at a club bring and buy day.

Can anyone comment if there is any more recent books that would be useful to complement it on the subject of the Jacobite rebellions in particular? (Helion Century of the Soldier series?)

Which Jacobite rebellions are you interested in? '89, '15, '19? I recently picked up Oates book from Helion and I am enjoying it, it is nice to compare another author with Stuart Reid on the topic. I believe Helion also has books on Sherifmuir and Glenshiel

Another option is Barry Hilton's League of Augsburg site, which specialises in this era:

There are some really useful source books and cheap downloadable uniform guides.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful  :-bd

I'm looking at the earlier period of Scots rebellions 1685 - 1715, since I have potentially got existing units that I can use with little or no change.

I own all three and have read the latter two, both are highly recommended. The Stuart Reid book includes comprehensive uniform information.
