Title: Egypt in C19th
Post by: Duke Speedy of Leighton on 27 April 2024, 09:06:15 PM
What ho chaps,
I have just acquired a second hand batch of 10mm British in desert and Egyptian figures, late C19th, some Brits in Red, some in khaki, all in pith helmets.
Painted: Ten bases of each, and a lot of unpainted too.
Did they only fight Sudanese/Dervish/Hottentots or are there any other viable opponents?

Thanks
Will

Some possibles:
Egyptians and Albanians - Second Egyptian–Ottoman War
Abyssinians (Ethiopians) - British expedition to Abyssinia
Egyptians, Sudanese, assorted tribal forces - Urabi Revolt and British intervention in Egypt in 1882
Ethiopians, Egyptians, Sudanese, Mahdi, Jalin, Beja, etc - Mahdist War

A Sudanese Battalion fought in Mexico during the French Intervention 1863-1867.

There's a very good book called A Black Corps d'Elite which covers it's history both in Mexico and in subsequent African History

Your Brits can fight Boers in two wars - in red in the first one, khaki in the second.
Redcoats can fight Zulus.
Khaki pith helmets and white-clad Egyptians in fez can proxy as Italians against Abyssinians at Adowa etc.
They can also fight Ashanti in 1874.
And German colonial troops in WWI?
