I've just 'binged' (new streaming related adjective there) my way through 3 Body Problem - the new sci-fi book adaptation on Netflix.
Having 'fought' my way through the book (the physics is very dense, all be it very 'real') but enjoyed it, I must say that am also enjoying the film/series adaptation. It's more along the lines of an 'Arrival' type movie, than say Star Wars or Star Trek. Quite cerebral and relational.
There have been various comments made about the adaptation of the book, away from its primarily Chinese protagonists to a more Westernized cast. But I think that was inevitable and it works well, as it actually improves the scale of the book (IMHO).
I'm not giving anything away by stating that this is only Series 1, and that I am much looking forward to Series 2. It will also be interesting to see how the director deals with the timescale of the book as well.
I'd give it a firm 9 out of 10 for me (the -1 being that it could be running a bit faster for my tastes).
NB: there is also a multi-part Chinese language adaptation around as well. I have not seen it and dont know if there is a sub-titled version. But it might be very interesting to see that as well.
Cheers
Mark
Started watching this. Was enjoying it until they got to a bit where two of the 'heroes' commit mass murder in a very unpleasant way and get away with it completely. No consequences, whether legal or moral, at all apparently. Decided I did not want to watch the rest.
I'm waiting until my brain is ready to concentrate on this, which it most certainly is not at present! Reviews have been mixed, but generally positive so far. I'll know after an episode or two whether it has grabbed me or not. I believe the Chinese version is available on Youtube, but not sure if it's subtitled or not.
