Title: Centurion Mk. 5/2
Post by: Mako on 25 January 2024, 04:05:39 AM
Will a Centurion Mk. 5/2 be produced?

105mm L7 gun option used by many nations.

It sort of is, not specifically though. Use a 105 turret on the Mk 5 hull.

And the nice Mr Leon will probably do them as a special order for you :)

B-lls. Will he, do you think? I've always just bought 'Model A' & 'Model B' so I can get the respective parts needed. Just done so, in fact, with my last order - and the orders before that. My fault, I should have asked Leon  :(

He will definitely do special orders on figures, not so sure on vehicles :-\

There's a lot more metal involved, it may come down to how the molds are organised

I'll feel a bit cheeky asking for just these bits from the (Modern Tanks) T-62: three pairs of "1 MG, 1 IR Box", so I can convert the Pendraken T-54 model to a T-54B with AAMG & Luna searchlight.

I'll email you and talk about it.

There is probably a whole thread here about conversion packs.
So many of the 'core' Cold War MBTs for both NATO and WARSAW PACT can upgraded to B/C/D etc variants by the addition of some relatively small additional bits of upgrade kit. It just need some kind & knowledgeable soul (?) to itemize them in a structured manner  :)

To be fair, I should say, in regard my idea for the T-54B, I'd also have to use modelling putty on the turret and the main gun barrel to model changes and omissions from the stock model. I'll also have to fashion a commander's search light out of metal, too.

I'm not an expert on the T-54, so I'm just working off Google photos, Wikipedia, and an old copy of an Osprey book 'Israeli/Arab tanks 1967'. I'm going to be using my models for a fictitious war in the mid-to-late 1980s so fancy fielding T-54B and T-62 tanks against American-built M60A3 tanks. Shoe-horning in an IS-3, too, as I like the look of them  :)

Mako - it looks easy, need  tghe Barrel from the Mk 7 , replacig the 20pdr. For Leon a Mk 7 withn 105 is an upgunned vehicle - should be a 7/2.

To try and clarify -

Mk 1 and 2 esentially test versions, Mk 2 was issued
Mk 3 - replaced 17pdr with 20pdr most converted to Mk 5
Mk 5 - Replaced BESA with Browing and removed 2" bomb thrower
Mk 5/1 - Uparmouerd with 20pdr.
Mk 5/2 - Upgunned with L7.
Mk 6 - Mk 5 uparmoured and Upgunned.
Mk 7 - nerw build with extra fuel
Mk 7/1 and 2 as Mk 5 1 and 2
Mk 9 - Mk 7 both uparmoured and upgunned.
Mk 8 - New build with new mantlet - very few, it's the Airfix Kit.
Mk 8/1 and 2 as Mk 5/1 and Mk5/2 - reporesent bulk of Mk 8's
Mk 10 Mk 8 with both
Mk 6/1 has IR systen (search light)
Mk 6/2 has Ranging gun
Mk 11 - Mk 6 with both
Mk 9 1 and 2 as 6/1 and 2
MK 12 - Mk 9 with both
Mk 10 1 and 2 as 6/1 and 2
Mk 13 mk 10 with both.

Other thing to beware - 20pdr has an A - smooth barrel and B with fume extractor.

Also the Dutch had a Mk 5/3 is a Mk 5 with R Gun and 105 but not uparmoured, not many of those.

Hope that helps.

Any chance of making this an official option in the catalog, since the parts are available, and apparently this model was used by many nations - Danes, Swedes, Israelis, and others, from what I've read?

The Swedes used a monowheel trailer with fuel, issued to British Army but doesn't seem to have been comonly used.

Isralie are initally 5/2 rapily upgraded with deisels - as S'hot with a new engine deck.

Need to add both those.
