Title: Movement trays for ancients and fantasy
Post by: Maraviglia on 04 November 2023, 05:43:11 PM
Pretty much as the title.
I think it'd be really handy if we could get trays with a small lip around the sides to put multiple models inside of. There's a (ahem) "small" 10mm warhammer fantasy group out there, 10mm Kings of war players and personally I could go for trying some mini Oathmark so having something ready made would be nice.
I know of the Warband ones with gaps in for smaller multibases but I mean something that goes up to the edge for single casualty removal games.
While it is possible to make them yourself getting the "lip" on with having to allow for the extra few mm is a little tricky.

Good idea or..?

Most MDF basing services will be able to produce what you describe, just ask.

Pendraken and Warbases come to mind.

I make my own with plasticard, just ask and I will point you at a 'to-do' blog link.

True but wouldn't it just be more convenient to got to "bases and basing", click on "movement trays", pick the interior size you want as you would any other bases, add to basket and sit back with you favourite drink to await the postie?

I suspect there is too much variability to add these to online ordering systems. But I have asked Leon to make some for me in the past and they were very good and precisely made to the dimensions I asked for.

I have made ones in the past and found that magnetic basing works well on these and you can get away without any edging (though you do need to be a bit more careful when picking up the sabot base)

The challenge is the number of different possible combinations of widths and depths ~X(

Then there are people like me who want space on the 'lip' at the back for labels...

A quick email to the nice Mr Leon gets a very prompt response and exactly what you want shipped out very soon thereafter :)

I'm not saying the section would need every possible permutation of width and depth, that'd obviously be silly to attempt.
But wouldn't it be as simple as the other base sizes where you have a selection of common sizes and an option to request specific others? It just seems reasonable to advertise that this is an available. I've used Pendraken a lot over the years and until this thread I didn't know requesting trays was an option.

It's something we've done as a custom job a lot over the years, so just shoot me an email if there's something specific you're looking for.

We've never added them to the website just because we don't want to step on Warbases' toes.  We know Martin and Glenn really well and they produce almost every size/type you could need!

That all makes sense.
Currently it's just a few half formed ideas but its good to know I can get them alongside everything else.
Thanks!
