Many moons ago I mentioned a new Fantasy range in the newsletter. They have now arrived at Pendraken HQ, and will be going into the moulding queue. What we don't have for them though, is a name?
So, suggestions please for this new Fantasy race:

Draconians ..
Them's some pretty fluffy looking draconians!
(I didn't realise anyone else might have read the DragonLance books!)
Hmm - they kind of look like [in D&D terms]:
Slaad [not much]:

Troglodytes:

Hell yes! Best D&D series IMHO
For some reason looking at the greens the name 'Trogs' comes to mind :-\
They remind me of a range of minis I saw concept artwork for years ago, 'Fimur' I think they were called. Think they were planned for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game - could be wrong, the old memory isn't what it used to be =) Don't think minis ever materialised.
Cheers,
Kev

I first got the novels from a secondhand book shop years ago, and collected every one that followed, until they started adding random generic Fantasy story's by just putting them into the Krynn setting.

Yeah, I've seen the Fimir, I think they were in the original HeroQuest game? I don't see these as looking especially 'evil' though? They look a bit more friendly to me?
I don't know what they're called, but I'm gonna get them an use them as Glorantha trolls (Uz), they have just the head for that. These trolls are nothing like the LOTR or Warhammer trolls, they are tribal, have shamans and a well evolved, albeit dark society.

If not Draconian for D&D copyright... could be "Drakkar" the name? However very nice range, I like them.

They were in WHFRP 1st edition too.
Hmm, hard to get beyond fimir since these guys seem to be monocular too! How about Drakmir, or cyclopean reptile-men.

You obviously weren't around when they recorded "Wild Thing" and the original version of "Love is all around" ;)
Saurians or as they have one eye Cyclosaurs?
Very nice, whatever they get called.
what about Fomorians?
basically what the fimir were based on.
I do like them though :D
And as for dragon lance, loved the books, also had the computer game too where you flew your dragon, basically a dragon flight sim :D :D

I'm liking some kind of word play on Cyclops, and I didn't know about the fomorians, so that's another road to go down. From the wiki info, they don't fully match the description of those, so we might have to work on a name around 'Fomorian'.

Did you ever see the animated film? I got pretty excited when I heard it had been made, got myself a copy and wasn't impressed in the slightest. :(
How about "Toadmen"? Or is the green just getting to me?
What about:
Foromorians, a sub species lost on a small archepelego surrounded by tretcherous seas and prone to massive fog banks
Acessable only by a brave few by tramp steamer per chance ;)

Haha, there's a Shetland joke in there somewhere! :D ;)
Too much wind here for the fog, but one takes ones inspiration from where one can get it. :)
Looks like someone sat on their phone ;D ;)
'TREVOR'
It's a good a name as any! ;D
The Trevors then. Hmm. I like it!
Fimorians?
I don't want to draw undue attention to the competition, but over at Magister Militum they sell 15mm Duckmen (item code 'QAK') led by the Dux d'Orange. To top it off, in the online catalogue they call them 'Duckpersons'. It is not often that I roar with laughter when visiting a wargaming site, but I sure did when I saw that. Maybe someone could come up with something a little ... lighter for this new Pendraken range than what has been mentioned. It probably takes a native speaker to get it right, so I'm afraid I shall pass. Mind you, I have several robust suggestions, but they would surely fail the PG13 test. ;)
Cheers,
Aart
Dahragi?
Yapigong?
Try this site: http://www.seventhsanctum.com

Trevorians
Trevorites :-\
The ' Barnies'

Like the Boggy-Woggy Trolly-Wollies?
:D
They are obviously Urgh. So named because they hated anyone who wasn't a Urgh, and the last words of many an explorer was
"Look out it's a... Urghhhhhh"
Not to be confused with their spikier, nastier cousins, the "Aaaaaargh!"
The BOggy-Woggy, trolly-wollies it is then

They look exactly like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fimmirs. Is this name restricted?
If not Pendraken should cosider naming them that way. I guess many Warmaster players would
welcome the idea of making Fimm army.
My initial idea was where the fimir came from :)
Any more thoughts on this? I'm currently leaning towards either 'Troggs', or 'Fimms'. :-\
Fimms :D
Like Troggs, but, my Spidersenses are tingling....
Think 'Troggs' may be copywrite of Reg Presley...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Troggs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Troggs)
or a swimwear company...
http://www.troggs.com/ (http://www.troggs.com/)
or a 'World of Warcraft' Beastie...

Or a football team in the Ashford & District Sunday League
http://www.troggsfc.co.uk/index.html (http://www.troggsfc.co.uk/index.html)
GW may object to to 'Fimms'....
I'm still backing Trevor!
They are definately 10mm scale GW Fimir sculpted back in the 1980's by Nick Bibby.
As with pretty much everything the GW does however they were direct 'rip-offs' (i beleive the frame it as 'paying homage to' the ancient Irish Fomorian 'sea devils'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimir (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fimir)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fomorians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fomorians)
How about going with the Old Irish 'Fo Muire' as the name; perhaps corrupting it to Fomur?
Alternately, since they're cyclopean, name then Balori after the fomorian King Balor of the Evil Eye? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balor))
By the way...LOVELY sculpts! Me likey... :D
Fo Muire - nice!
Faux Muire... :D ;D
I doubt the Troggs would be banging on our door for copyright! :D

They were designed to similar specs, but distinctly not as Fimir. We've actually purchased them from a guy in the US who had them sculpted as generals for an army.

Maybe, I'm wary with odd names that people won't take to them.

You never know, but since Reg Presley spends his time now chasing crop circles and UFOs anything's possible...
He blew the royalties he got for the Wet Wet Wet cover of 'Love Is All Around' on funding his research and to publish his book 'Wild Things They Don't Tell Us'. http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/features/regpresley.shtml (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/features/regpresley.shtml)
He and i are from the same place. He used to own the house next door to where i grew up actually.
I like Balori, the Balorian horde has a bit of a ring to it
Balori - I like the sound of that :D
Yeah, that could be a go-er.
Nice-er!

Of superb! :D
Did you say baloni? ;)
Oh you beauty - thank you for these. Cyclopean Lizardmen? Fomorian Lizardmen? (or is that one sailing to close to a law suit)
Any news on these Leon?
Yep, all lined up here to go into the next master mould. I'm waiting for the first lot of Mongol dollies to arrive from Phil, and they can all go in the same mould. Shouldn't take too long to get them sorted after that, they would be in the queue behind the Nap Bavarians and the Ancient Spanish.

Balori is a good name. Any chance of making an armoured variant of the one with a weapon in each hand, giving him an ornate helmet and breast plate, as a hero/championg/general? When i say ornate, all it would need is some celtic swirl patterns engraved into the armour.
Also any chance of lizardman torso on Rhino body centaurs?
Once they're in production we can look at doing some additions to the range, including some heavier armoured ones. Not sure about the centaur versions though, random centaurs don't generally sell that well.

I had just read this topic.
Uuh great news around here. Looking forward for the trevorites, fimmirians or whatever name you will give them. :)
Thanks
We've got the regular centaurs, which sell occasionally, but the Troll Centaurs, Evil Centaurs and Undead Centaurs almost never sell at all. Like 10 packs per year max across all of them. So we'd probably look at doing some armoured Balori first, and probably some mounted ones on something as well.

Somewhere in the back of my mind is the niggling doubt that these beasties are going to be named "Centaurions".

I've always liked imaginary beasts
I definitely bought some of the goblin wolf centaurs for a chaos army (since my version of chaos is half way between Moorcock's in Elric and Games Workshop so can include all kinds of things), though they're still not based or painted
Any update on these poor marsh-dwellers?
They keep getting bumped from the moulding queue as we're doing other things. We should be doing a master mould in January, so I'll try and fit them into there.

I name this range 'Percival'
Might I suggest O-Beasts...
Did this range ever make it to production? because I would dearly love to snatch up some 10mm Fomorians!

Alas, the answers are "no" and "me too!"
The figures all got master moulded, but I think at this point we'd look to do them in a 'Warband' style so they'd need to go off to Phil for conversion work and then we'd need to do some army lists for them.
So....Not tomorrow then. ;) ;D
Cheers - Phil
Does 'Not tomorrow' mean 'Today'?
The army of Fat Pointy-faced Blokes.
Their appearance reminds me of the Phants but I might be the only one on the forum who remembers Dan Dare.
Oh, no, you aren't. And the Trigan empire too.
I can certainly remember Dan Dare.....What was his sidekick's name ?......Digby ?
Cheers - Phil
Aye, he were from Preston if I recall. He also had a Treen ally called Sondar.
I had (possibly still have somewhere in the clutter) a set of Dan Dare figures about 3" tall. Dan Dare himself in green, Wigan-born side-kick Digby in red and boss-man Sir Hubert Guest in yellow. There was also Sondar the Treen with a pistol and another Treen who stood in for The Mekon himself.
Good to see the unnamed Treen is wearing red ;)
Perhaps this is where StarTrek got its tradition of unnamed cannon fodder in red from ;D
I don't give much for Digby's chances :(

Fomorians (no one has copyright on Irish myths)
Marsh lords
Marsh hunters
Bog stalkers
