Title: Warfare, Farnborough, 11-12 November 2023
Post by: Chris Pringle on 17 October 2023, 12:19:28 PM
If you need just a little more inspiration to tip you over the edge and go with Franco-Prussian War for your next new armies, go to the Warfare show:
https://wargamesreading.co.uk/warfare-2023/

If you can make it on 12 November (Remembrance Sunday), there will be a BBB participation game of Sedan (1870) - a military disaster that makes for a much better game than you might expect. Go on, jump into the 'chamberpot'!

I'll pop along & say "Hi" Chris, but I am competing in the 2 day 28mm ADLG competition over the weekend, so cannot participate.
Cheers
Mark

As it happens, I can't make it to Warfare myself now either.  :(

But the boys will still be there running the Sedan game and happy to chat to anyone. (That's why they're there - it's a long way to drive otherwise, just to play a game they could have had at the club.) So please do say hello to them, Mark. And best of luck with your legions/phalanxes/shieldwalls or whatever you're using for ADLG!

Thanks Chris
It is a slightly 'odd/interesting' set of period restrictions this year for the ADLG event, so I am going to run out my later Sassanids - all those elite armoured bow armed cavalry - but with a small surprise (spoiler alert) contingent from the "People's Front of Judea" (PFJ) ... "splitters!"  :D  :D  :D
I'm saving the Legions for Brixham in December.
Cheers
Mark

Sassanids? Might as well be Tyrannids - it's all foreign talk to me! Anyway, "Romanes [or whoever] eunt domus" and have fun.

Bit far to come for me and last time I tried to travel that far South at this time of year I wound up on a cold, wet platform looking at our drowned locomotive. Fortunately most carriages had not left the station so we could all step dryshod back onto dry land. No rescue dinghy's required.

So, good luck with the Sassanids, Mark.

Sorry you can't make it Chris, hope the reason is nothing dreadful.

As to Sassanids/ Tyranids I have similar problems with who's who in the 19th Century! Still, I'm sure the Elbonians, or whoever, will do well at Sedan. :D

The organisers have advised that pedestrian/public transport visitors should use Gate B; last year all the directions seemed to presume all the visitors would be motorists.

I shall see how I feel that week, still a bit scarred from my visit to COLOURS.  Caught the 4:15 train from Newbury Racecourse and arrived home in North London at about 4hrs later.  Changed at Reading, as anticipated, there was a short delay but we got away relatively quickly.  However, we were de-trained two stops later at Maidenhead.  The power was off and there were no services in or out of Paddington for the foreseeable future.  After getting on for 2hrs at Maidenhead with no immediate prospect that the power was going to be restored and then how much longer after that trains would start to run on the lesser routes, I got an Uber.

Roughly 50mins and £85, plus tip, later I arrived home.  The co-ordinator at Maidenhead said he had never experienced a day like it; there had been about six incidents including a suicide, trespassers on the line and a couple of trackside fires, all of which would have required the power to be shut off.

WARFARE is a show I've always enjoyed and last year was the first time I've missed it in at least 20 years (Covid excepted).

Aw, thanks for your kind concern, Mike. No, no dramas, I'm just required elsewhere. Occasionally family comes first.

Sorry your Colours outing turned out to be such an odyssey. (oops - ancients reference there - I'll ruin my reputation)

I hope it doesn't put you off going to Warfare and that you'll have a great day this time.
