Hello, my name is Jamie!
I've been painting and collecting miniatures for 15 years now or so, my main passion being Warhammer 40 and 30k. Huge fan of the series but over the years my collection branched out to Flames of War, Bolt Action, LOTR, Warhammer Fantasy, Star Wars legion and other bits and bobs.
I got into 3d printing a couple of years ago and haven't looked back. It really opened the door to all sorts of games.
I haven't really played any game system now for years, so in that respect, I am a total newbie but hoping to change that!
Came across Pendraken on my way to work one day I've become interested in the 10mm and historical wargaming, I've picked up a US Vietnam army in 10mm.
Hoping in the coming months/years I can get some time to play games of whatever! I'm especially keen to learn Blitzkrieg Commander, Bolt Action and Black Powder (recently got the epic ACW starter box). And if anyone is willing to show me the ropes of 30/04k and Necromunda! Hoping to get an army together as well for Kings of War and Old World when that hits.
Cheers
Firstly, Jamie, welcome to the forum!
That's an eclectic mix of interests. I heartily approve! :)
On the Commander series, there are plenty of people on the forum who play, so lots of advice available. Indeed there can be few periods where advice from someone knowledgeable is unavailable here.
If you are happy to indicate where you are, forumites may be able to point you to clubs or individuals who would be happy to provide learning opportunities and opponents.
Finally, the forum is always keen to see photos of your efforts.
Another "I do anything" gamer.....welcome
Welcome, Jamie! With that range of interests, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding willing opponents nearby. (This is your cue to tell us you're sharing an Outer Hebride with 50 sheep.)
Enjoy the forum.
Chris
I'm fairly local to the shop, I live in Normanby, Middlesbrough.
You could say I have a resin/plastic addiction :D Naturally, nothing is painted, it's all in half states of completion, only made worse by 3d printing!
In truth, I've always enjoyed the collecting side of the hobby but with 3d printing opening the door to all sorts of different possibilities (and the discovery of pendraken) I now of the mindset of actually finishing projects and playing.
Bit of a long story, but I started off on 40k 4th ed crica 2008. Bought tons of Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Tau etc - painted , stripped, repainted, stripped, half converted etc. Over the same time, I'd pick up "bargains" on ebay of LOTR stuff, a bit of fantasy. I then dipped my toes in Flames of War 1st/2nd, but none of the groups (2010/11) I was in played it. Got shelved. This went on for a few years then I jumped on the Bolt Action band wagon, but never played.
Ditched the whole hobby for a few years then dove right back in a 2019, however between a career change, becoming a Dad and life my time for it has been inconsistent. That being said, when I got the 3d printer I started to look at the hobby differently. My thing, despite my lack of skill, is converting and collecting. 3d printing has made converting so much easier and the sheer volume of what is available to print has opened my eyes to "other" systems. It shames me to say but I was kind of blinkered by Games Workshop etc. So finding things like Osprey stuff, Kings of War etc really made me re-evaluate. In no particular order what I 'd like to learn are:
Stargrave
Bolt Action
One Page Rules
Warhammer 30k 2.0
W40K 10th
Black Powder
Pike and Shoot
Blitz/Cold War Commander
Necromunda
Moderhiem
Kings of War
A modern skirmish game like Red Earth / Spectre Miniatures
Zone Alfa
I've heard good things about Xenos Rampant, Chain of Command and 5 Parsecs from Home
The irony is I probably have miniatures (or could print) for all these either half built on a shelf!
Xenos rampant is excellent not tried CoC and not heard of 5 Parsecs
Zona Alpha is a cracking game, it's on my 10mm one day list.
As is a 10mm Oathmark army or two - worth a look at
I have a 5 Parsecs campaign (which is currently on hold due to things structural, medical and legal) and I posted the story of my crew here and on The Wargames Website. I really like it as a system and have just invested in pdf's of the expansions recently published by Modiphius.
