I was thinking last night about running a savage.worlds fantasy game and made me think I always play an elf in a fantasy setting.
So the question is:
What is your faourite fantasy race?
Mine =
1,Elves
2.Dwarves
3.Lizardmen, I like the GW setting for them in Lustria, but then I like the aztecs.
Good Idea!
1 Samurai Apes! ^^
2 Undead or Immortal (like in my novels!^)
3 Catman
Favourite???
Has to be Melnibonean.
Gordon
Favourite fantasy race? Got to be Chariotmaster: http://www.chariotmaster.de/ :)
Oh - that kind of race... ;)
Half-elf:

:D
I like the idea of evil Beastmen types, lurking in woodland ready to pounce.
Flying monkeys are something you dont see often.
But Orcs and Goblins have always been my favourite. I may do a horde for HOTT.
Yeaahh! Good choice Nikharwood! ^^
Must admit it is over 20 years since I read any moorcock, and to be honest I cant remember much about it :-[
Now I do love the samurai apes :D, so much so I bought some for my pulp games, but as with everything I am now thinking of getting some more for their own right :D
I had a beastman gang for my mordheim games, in fact that is som ething that is going the journey :)
I always wanted a 3000 point goblin only army when I played warhammer, so I mad do with either a unit of 80 or two units of 40, with 32 wolf riders on the flanks, with various orc units to builk it out..... yeah try getting 25% casualties on a 80 strong unit lol
the dwarves i like are lord of the rings type, l I ove the idea of Moria as a setting :D
Goblins, of course...
With Hobgoblins as elite troops...
And a few Trolls to add intelligence :D :D :D
And Dwarves, too... ;)
I should say my favourite fantasy race is Humans. They are a lot of infravalorated, but they are a lot of fun to play with in a fantasy setting
hmmmm, probably would have to go with Orcs and Goblins - which I convert and repaint into something that I call Dwimlin... no not as fancy as it sounds, just a more human looking skin tone for standard Gobbo types, making them look more bestial and hybrid humanoidal <--- does that word actually exist?

emmmm I think it sounds like something you go to the doctor's to get some kind of cream for :D
See Nik is off on his favorite fanatasy......
Mine is the Nomads in Harry Harrisons Death World III.

Dwarfs, unfortunately they're often at a disadvantage in rules. (I'm looking your direction GW).

are they often overlooked ? ;)
=O :-bd =O
well my preferences are all AD&D 1st edition specific
- Orcs with pig faces
- Hobgoblins in samurai armour
- Gnomes with big noses
It was a happier time altogether in the late 70s :)
1. Cute and cunning, the Ducks or Durulz

Wise and learned, but unable to put up the correct picture :)
Here's the dragonewt:

Orkz above all! I've a big orc army for Warmaster and an army for HotT. Also I like the orks in SF setting.
I'll vote for orcs/goblins again (especially the Tolkien originals - Ralph Bakshi's animated film captured them perfectly for me).
However, i'll also offer up kobolds. Gotta love those sneaky little tykes...

In D&D I always had a soft spot for half-orcs, wargaming would probably plump for orcs - friends of technology ;)

Ha-ha. >:( Watch out or they'll jump up and headbutt you in... the knee. :-[
I think Lizardmen probably, but I like dwarves and gnomes too.
Have to say it - has been and always will be halflings!
Let's put it like this:
Belker Bitterlaf; Merry Brandybuck & Perigine Took - Halflings of Distiction (let's ignore that whinger Frodo).
Melnibonieans second; Elves Third; Then Treemen, Rohirrim & Dwarves (Mountain)
Ralph Bakshi's Orcs - true to Tolkien`s ideas I think.
Not sure these last two count as `races`exactly but:
D&D`s Darkmantles and Umberhulks <--- but WotC really messed up on the Hulks in their 3.1/3.5 photos.

Unless the warhammer rules have changed a lot since i last played (which i admit is long time now) they have leadership 2 higher than humans, toughness 1 higher and weaponskill 1 higher, making them better then elves, orcs, humans or goblins - plus they have more elites than most other races.
Just no horse....
I quite like slann - don't know why. Aztec frogmen should be ridiculous, but the background for them is interesting. From 1st to 3rd edition of Warhammer slann made up most of their own armies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizardmen_%28Warhammer%29#Development_History) and lizardmen and troglodytes were a minority, but later ones the slann became only the mages/rulers/generals with the rest being lizardmen or skinks. Didn't like the later armies so much.
This appeared out of the blue from a time when Pendraken was but a glint in FSN's eye
My answer would be Undead if that can be classed as a race
Vampires can, necromancers probably not technically a race, but for the purposes of the discussion they can be.
'Dirty necro bastards, coming to this country, killing our people, then reanimating them to use them to kill even more of us. Can't get a job any more because the zombies took them all for no pay. Send 'em all home etc." ;)
Well, maybe wouldn't phrase it as much like a UKIP / BNP activist, but what i mean is, they can count as a race, but a dirty evil one.
I just like em cos there dead ( no pun intended) easy to paint
1: Wood Elves (why wasn't Michelle Peiffer Galadriel?)
2: High Elves
3: Half-Elves
Wow that was a long time to reply ...I still have a war master lizardman army.... One of my favourite races....

I think there have been some people clamoring for Aztec Frogmen, they might even have made it to the top requests already.
Yes, I know, but somebody had to do it
4 x 400m Trolls.
For battle games I tend to prefer High Elves or Chaos Warriors - because they tend to field a few high value units and I paint so infrequently they're the only armies I am liable to finish :)
In computer RPGs I tend to go for combat mages. I have a female Liche in Skyrim in doubly enchanted armour and armed with the "Bow of Slaying Everything Except Squid"* at the moment and an Arcane Warrior in Dragon Age: Origins - yep going through something of a nostalgic period playing some of the older games!
*If you play Munchkin you'll get the reference, if you don't play Munchkin ... for shame :)
I like elf armies but in warhammer archers tend to not kill enough enemies to justify their points cost before they get swarmed by e.g orc or goblin infantry - and a horde of goblin archers with Bowskill 3 are almost as effective as half their number of Bowskill 4 or 5 elf archers, but cost less points.
Quite liked Galadriel in the LOTR movies - she was meant to be warning Frodo how terrible she would become if she took the ring, so was in the spirit of the books, even if it wasn't quite the same as in the book.
Undead.....
I really enjoy making zombies. :)
Cheers - Phil
Undead for me too.
I love a great big stinky, shambling horde.
Most people call them wargame conventions :D
I think Ms Blanchett is more elfin when she plays human women, actually.

Anything that isn't in Warhammer! (:| :P
If we are talking wargaming then Tolkien's Orcs (because I've got loads...but not as many as Just a Few!)
If we are talking literature then Melniboneans (from my teenage memories, I tried reading an Eliric novel recently and gave up - they haven't aged well :()
The Children - Song of Ice and Fire.
elves so majestic ;) ive always liked elves for fantasy settings
I quite like the idea of a Native American Cat race, similar to the Leonin in MTG or Khajit in Elder Scrolls :D
The Afronters from Excession or Prador from Neal Ashers works!
Orcs - Obviously
Hobbits
Elves
All of the Tolkien variety not the cartoonish sort you sometimes see.
Undead !
I find them the easiest to sculpt......And I can look in the mirror for inspiration. :D

White Walkers?

Can I change my vote to Wacky Races?
Elves are barstewards - prancing around like a mix of Robin Hood and Mr Spock with their overlong bows and the hippy magic. Looking down on the rest of us 'cos they're an "elder race", well move over Grandpa, time for the young races to get a look in.
I suppose in Tolkien books that did in fact happen.
Rats.
