Title: Painting WWII 1/3000 Scale Ships
Post by: T13A on 26 March 2023, 07:07:07 PM
Hi

Just getting into WWII naval for the first time using 1/3000 scale models and I'm having a real headache researching colour schemes online. Just wondering if anyone could recommend 'generic' greys I could use for the hulls and upper works of RN and Kreigsmarine ships for the north atalntic circa 1941. I'm not intending to be too 'fussy' with this project so do not intend to do any 'dazzal' colour schemes (but you never know....). Also any help with deck colours much appreciated. I tend to use Vallejo paints where I can.

Grateful for any help, Cheers Paul

PS I've been looking through Lord Speedy photos of his ships which of course look wonderful.  :)

Hmm. Think there was a LOT of dazzle. Esp. Big ships that you might want to fight with. 1/3000... can just go for 'impression'. Greys varied a lot. Some V dark, some lighter. 'Battleship Grey' did not really exist as a 'colour'... for gaming pieces, anyway. Appearance depended on 'light'. Decks... just have to reseach.
As with just about every 'paint' job, Ships, Tanks, Uniform... 'Go as You Please'...If YOU like effect... fine!

LOL! Small Child... farmhouse was painted with paint 'scrounged' from shipyards. Buff windows... rest was Buff, Grey, Green or Brown! Until 80s Government 'office' paint was the same. I LIKED IT! Hate some 'modern' schemes! But... when we moved into Mid 60s bungalow... Ma did it out in pastels. People called it 'the rainbow' house... and ALL the new builds, and relatives, started doing it! LOL!
