Hi, all! Classic forum fare here: long-time lurker, first-time poster, pleasure to make your acquaintance!
Like many, I was into Warhammer as a kid - even have a brother who worked for GW in the 90s - fell out of the hobby for many years when my interests shifted from toy soldiers to music, band t-shirts and beer, and then, finding myself with loads of time during COVID, got back into the hobby in a big way.
Recently made the shift from 28/32mm to 10mm with some of Pendraken's Hill Dwarves, and immediately fell in love. Have since picked up more additions to the pile of shame/opportunity than I'd like to admit, and having a blast. It's taken me a while to get used to painting in higher contrast and steadying my shaky hands to pick out the lovely, teeny tiny details, but I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. Plus, being able to bash out a base of soldiers in my lunch hour is great for the dopamine hit!
Being a painter foremost and gamer second, I'm not particularly au-fait with a lot of rulesets, gaming mechanics and the like, but if anyone local did want to show a noob the ropes, I'd be up for a game or two (until I'm inevitably thrashed and never play again).
Hope you're all well!
Sam.
Welcome on board Sam :) .
Welcome.
Photos please. Always good to see someone's brushwork.
Welcome to the Forum!
Hello and welcome
Welcome to the forum
Welcome Sam :-h
Pictures, we like pictures :)
Welcome to the forum Sam. If you want advice ( and sometimes even if you don't :) ) the forumites will help out where they can.
Cheers for the warm welcome to the forum, chums!
As requested by fsn, here's a photo of my latest completed base of Pendraken bits; a small start to a potentially very large project! One unfavourable thing I have found since starting 10mm is that it's a bit awkward to get my camera to focus on objects that are so small, but I think you get the gist.
Welcome, Sam. :-h
Hi Sam - enjoy
Well those ECW chaps look rather spiffing Sam 8) .

Yes they do. Welcome to Pendrakenworld.
Thanks, John and Steve, for your kind words! I'll be honest I've surprised myself with these ones; I'm a mediocre painter at best in 28mm, so feeling like a pro in 10 is a nice feeling! :D
Small scale is easier, and generally looks better

Very wise words indeed!

Very nice choice of palette on those ECW pikemen
Welcome!
Hi Sam! May I invite you along to the Oxford Wargames Society? We meet most Mondays and roughly one Sunday a month at Wolvercote Village Hall:
https://oxfordwargamessociety.org.uk/dates.html
My corner of the hall is all historical battles, but there's another group of us who regularly fight fantasy battles and have a lot of fun. I'm sure you'd be made welcome.
Chris
Lovely stuff! Thanks for the invite, Chris; I'll probably send you a PM for a few more details if you don't mind, but I'd be well up for that. Tbh I think I'd like to move away from fantasy and sci-fi (not entirely, of course; you can take the Star Wars out of the man... etc) and towards historicals, so provided someone is happy to lend out some of their figures, I'd love to get involved!
By all means PM me, Sam. We do multi-player games and there's always room for a guest to join in. Come to Wolvercote and I guarantee you'll get a game!
Chris
Those pikemen look very good. Quite a subtle use of colours.
Hi Sam! Those pikemen look very angry, very effective paint job.
