In this day of enhanced awareness of our impact upon the environment, I am acutely aware that I discard a goodly number of small baggies. I do keep a few but always have more than I need.
Does anyone do anything more ecologically sound with their baggies?
Aren't 'baggies' trousers?
I have two cardboard boxes of assorted "baggies."
I wonder, in these financially straightened times, if any enterprising figure manufacturers would like to save a little on their costs by accepting donations of "pre-loved" baggies. Delivered personally at shops or shows, perhaps, for minimum environmental impact?
Maybe you can find a local distributor of, ummm, "medicinal", products who will gladly re-use them?
Customers may well be puzzled as to what "AWB3 x 2" written on the outside means though.
A plastic bag recyle bin might work

Is it wrong that I know EXACTLY what that is!
We now recycle all of our thin plastic film from food packaging etc at a local Tesco. They are doing a trial in our county and hope to role it in a few years if it works out. As a result we only have one black bin bag of rubbish every 4 weeks or more. Currently I keep all the zip lock bags for bits'n'pieces but any that are tired go in recycling now.
I keep mine all organized.
I find various uses for them. The fact that some have held lead figures I suspect would be an issue, as I certainly will not put things like Pills or dental brushes when I go away in ones that have been used for figures,
Giving them back to the manufacturers might be a good move - Leon would have to say if that is viable
Your friendly local charity shop should welcome them... Same for old coathangers!
Poly bags you mean? With the sealable tops.
I've always saved mine up then donated them to Irregular Miniatures at shows by the boxful. Don't see them as much now, think I gave my last lot to Leon.
Also our community gardening group use them for storing seeds, so contacting your local Incredible Edible group or similar, they might be willing to accept some.
Mark
We can reuse them sometimes but it depends what state they're in to be honest! I don't like using battered/crinkled bags for customer orders, not sure if it looks a bit unprofessional.

As far as I am concerned as long as the bag is intact and keeps the miniatures inside thats sufficient. I would rather get a reused one and save a bit of plastic.
Maybe you need a tick box saying 'I like recycled packaging'?
I'll have a think and see what we can do. We recycle almost everything in the business too, so we're not too bad on the 'green' scale.
I'd certainly have no issues with an obviously pre-used bag for my figures (especially at present, when I've got nowt to paint).
Would have no worries unless bag was Very worn... but would not be used, anyway. You would NOT put food/utensils into a bag that had had 'lead' soldiers in it! LOL!
Paul and I recycle our baggies by putting more figures in them.....well a figure actually - Paul kindly paints figures for me when required and puts each one in a separate baggie to return them to me for basing.... though I think with the amount of stuff we have bought over the years it would take quite a few figures to fill them all ;)

That's a dangerous place to be FK. You know what they say about wargamers and painting their last figure!

Does that mean you can get B Certified?! Be the first wargames company I've seen if so.
I imagine there's both an "image" thing there (tatty bags potentially putting people off), and a safety issue - even if the bag looks fine, can you really be sure and check them when you're lobbing a million orders a week out?

I'm not sure what that is to be honest! All of our metal dross (the oxidised stuff that we scrape off) is sent back to the metal company to be recycled. All of the MDF offcuts go to our local recycling place, as does any cardboard or plastic that we receive in deliveries. Old orders and paperwork is shredded down and sent to recycling as well.
The only actual waste we put in the regular bin would be food waste or non-recyclable plastics really.
I'm trying to get the unit itself a lot more energy efficient but it's incredibly difficult with the size of the building and the age of it.

It's not just a bad cold, then? :o

Opinions vary, as it's not got any legal clout.
Sounds very much like the "Great Place to Work" scheme that our company proudly announced we'd bought been awarded a couple of years before I left.

The aim is laudable and a lot of it's adherents are very good in many ways, but when Nespresso was going to buy, sorry, attain, B cert it feels a little hollow :D

I've had a quick look and I don't think I can afford the £1250 per year fee to be certified!

Yeah, it's nowt to Nespresso but a good chunk to an actual business that works for a living!

I'll have to put a coffee machine in the shop and see if that makes our millions...
