Hello everyone.
I am a 51 year old on and off again wargamer that has played and painted for many years and yet still suck at painting..... I recently bought the Warband rules and plan to purchase numerous fantasy armies as well as 10mm AWI as soon as the Uk Postal situation clears up. I have a lot of orders to other companies in the UK and they are taking way longer than before to the point I cant even remember what is still out there and what I have..... So yeah going to avoid the headache of ordering until the Postal thing gets fixed one way or the other. I have zero interest in any kind of politics and have zero opinions :)
Welcome BradleyD :-h

Welcome.

Well there's your problem. I reset my hobby in 2013. Threw out everything I had - 6mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm - and decided to redo everything in 10mm. Pendraken offered just about everything I needed (chariot armies not withstanding) and now I couldn't be happier!
I have gotten rid of all of my larger scale stuff. I still have my 1/72s and spencer smiths because its more for collecting than for gaming. But I switched to 6mm and was thrilled. Then I saw little wars TV do an AWI battle with Pendraken 10mm and at a convention I saw 10mm pendraken used for King or Empress rules for SYW. So now I am going to be doing fantasy, AWI and whatever else in 10mm! Probably still do what I am doing with the 6mm stuff too to be honest. I kind of group 6 and 10 together as the micro scale stuff and really like the looks of it. This website is amazing and I heard Leon on the Gods own scale podcast and he sounded like an awesome guy and one I would like to support!
Hi Bradley, welcome to the Forum!

Hi Bradley, welcome to the forum!
The UK postal/ delivery system is certainly weird at the moment. Odd things are arriving sooner than I'd normally expect, most stuff is slightly delayed, some massively delayed for no obvious reason and some stuff just goes into the warp and never re-emerges. Massively frustrating.
Still, it gives you time to read the rules and plan some armies.
The AWI armies are lovely .... I really, really don't need another unpainted army!
Also, I'll second Leon being awesome. As are Adele and the rest of the Pendraken team!

And very accurate :-bd
Interestingly, things are getting through to me pretty quickly here in Thailand!
Welcome, Brad, and regards to Janet.

The AWI games on Little Wars TV are very impressive - and the AWI range is one of the best! I'm still resisting this.
Do I approve of more colonials ? WElcome Brad :d
Welcome, Brad. :)

"How d'you do, I
See you've met my
Faithful handyman.
He's just a little brought down
Because when you knocked
He thought you were the candy man."
:) :) :) :)
Don't get caught out,
By the way I look...
Great welcome thank you everybody so much. I apologize but who is Janet? Well I am itching to have a go at 10mm so forget the nonsense I said about waiting.....I am going to order something in the next few minutes.... Nothing huge, enough to satisfy my cravings, yet small enough the wife wont kill me :) She supports my projects, but she doesnt support my spur of the moment random purchases...
Brad and Janet are the protagonists in the spoof musical horror show The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
A great stage show and an excellent film, of it's type.
As one who started my career as a librarian and ended it working in IT and who therefore transitioned from being a nerd to being a geek, I have two reasons for knowing this. :D
Janet is Susan Sarandon. If you're on first name terms with her, you're doing alright.
I've always liked her reply to an interviewer who asked how she'd coped with doing a nude love scene with Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger: "Honey, if you had a chance to kiss Catherine Deneuve, what would you do?"
(from someone else's memory, may be less than word perfect).
It is amazing that so many of us are married to the same person! ;)
Welcome to the Forum.
@BradleyD Rocky Horror is a fun if slightly disturbing experience. I'd recommend not watching the film first, but just go to a live event. Crowds are so friendly and not at all weird.
Also, the name "Bradley" makes me think of the the M2 Bradley IFV ... after the great, incomparable and utterly professional Bradley Walsh
Welcome! The AWI figures are lovely, I've dabbled with some small skirmish forces using them but they look great for big battles too.
Hi
Welcome! Pendraken AWI figures are my favourite range, started out as a small 6 month or so project at the beginning of COVID. Still going.....
Cheers Paul
Welcome Brad.
I have purchased the Warband rules and they look like a lot of fun. I may just buy a couple of those armies to start and get playing with my youngest. He likes looking at my toy soldiers so perhaps he will enjoy playing Warband with Dad?
Worked for me when my kids were little.
Also, we didn't have the cash to do the whole "let's hire a play centre and a burger joint for a birthday party" like some but a dozen boys getting to play "X-Wings vs Tie Fighters" with my Micromachines models got my kids some kudos. Home made rules and chocolate coin "medals" went a long way.
I always think the American Civil War is the best introduction to gaming.
The armies can be kept simple: you can get away with infantry, cavalry, artillery without having to differentiate between light and heavy; armoured and unarmoured; grav and wheeled.
There are many, many ranges available. You can go from 6mm to 54mm at to suit. There are also dozens of rulesets available. For beginners the rule set in the Blessed Featherstone's War Games is dated but simple and playable.
The uniforms are fairly simple. You can paint a Union infantryman in 6(?) colours. Nothing complicated, great for beginners to have a go at.
Obviously, you can then develop into musket vs rifled; Napoleon vs Parrott; pistol vs sabre but that's for later.
The downside is that obviously anyone who fields an Confederate army is a slavery supporting racist.
