Title: I may have gonne slightly off-track...
Post by: collegialhoagie on 09 September 2022, 06:53:35 PM
To my defence I was getting dangerously close to being almost halfway done with my main miniature project of painting up a 10mm great northern war battle, and after some inspiring chats with a good friend who's working at a naval museum, I've gone about getting some 1:3000th scale napoleonic warships X_X  X_X

Plan is to use them for GNW naval battles rather than Napoleonic, possibly the battle of Köge bay 1710, which is a battle directly connected to the battle of Helsingborg...

That's nice. I did Napoleonics in 1:2400 and was not satisfied.

Perhaps 1:3000 would be better.

Excellent! In wargaming there is no such thing as "off track". :d

Good stuff but I wouldn't want to try rigging them

Those look ace! Good stuff.

No doubt FK will be along shortly to ask me why I haven't finished my 1/4800 scale Napoleonic ships :)

Now, now, You're the only man I've ever bought jewelry for. Do you think I'd be nasty to you?

Yeah that was one of the reasons I went for 1/3000, rigging looks like chore...

Indeed! Very happy with the quality of the casts :)

Uhm I'm not sure actually. I'm thinking League of Augsburg's coming Mad for War ruleset looks pretty good, but we'll see. I don't really know what rules are popular for late 17th/early 18th century naval wargaming....

Ooh, those look great!

Isn't it traditional when first starting out in Age of Sail wargaming to get a British frigate and an aging Spanish 50-gun ship of the line and refight HMS Lydia vs. the Natividad?

I'm certainly tempted (again) . . .

Haha, I honestly know very little about that, we have a lot of interesting naval history here in Scandinavia to play around with ;D

Some more Swedish ship-o-the-lines, a two-decker and a three-decker:
