2022 is a big birthday for us so we're having a party!
30 years...! To celebrate our 30 years in the hobby we're going to be having a big 30th Birthday Bash on Saturday 16th July, up here at our new premises here in Middlesbrough. We'll have games, offers, cake and more, running from 10am until around 5pm (or until the games have finished!)
The Birthday Bash will coincide with the opening of our new Games room as well, so we'll have 7 game tables with a variety of display and participation games. We'll also be running tours of the workshop during the day so you'll be able to see how we take a sculpt through to a metal casting, as well as our laser and 3D machine setups.
We'll have refreshments available on the day and will be looking at some catering options too, depending on numbers.
For anyone wanting to collect an order on the day, you can now place your pre-orders through the website by using the code BIRTHDAYBASH to knock 10% off your orders! We'll also have a 10% Sale running on the website for anyone who can't make it to take advantage of any bargains too.
For anyone that can't make it to our 30th Birthday Bash, we've set up a Pendraken Discord server which can be found here: https://discord.gg/WTYqzCXU We'll have game updates, photos and a live stream throughout the day, so head along and join in the fun!
And finally, if you'd like to run a 10mm Birthday game in your local area or club, please let us know and we'll add it to the list!
As always, any questions just let us know and we'll hopefully see some of you here!
Confirmed Games:
- Attack on Wimentun Village (Baron Wars 1215-17) in 28mm by the Prince Bishops Wargames Club
- Race to the Channel (France 1940) in 10mm by the Border Reivers/Under the Bed Painting Service
- Battle of Teplitz (Seven Years War) in 10mm by the Old Guard Wargames Club

- Somewhere on the Aragon Front (Spanish Civil War) in 10mm by the Border Reivers / Northumbrian Painting Services
- Eastern Front (WWII) in 15mm by Durham Wargames Group
- Stargrave (Sci-Fi) in 28mm by Redcar Ironbeards

Also, early happy birthday!
You share a birthday with my baby sister. :)
Have a great day and it seems like only yesterday it was the 20th anniversary that we were talking aobut here! Sadly too far for me but will be with you there in spirit :) .

You going to stay up all night and play at the same time :D
It sounds like an excellent excuse for a road trip.
Alas I'm currently confined to a short radius my medical issues.
I'll certainly endeavour to dial in if there's a broadcast.
Best wishes to all and congratulations on keeping the business running and growing for 30 years.
Thanks guys, looking forward to it!

Well, she turns 60 on that day - she's not a real baby sister either!

Whooops, that means the Early WW2 Russians I bought for your 20th Birthday bash have been sitting in the lead pile for 10 Years.
Just wondering what I buy to put in the lead pile to wait until your 40th Birthday bash? :D

Well a fine happy birthday to Pendraken...30 years is a significant milestone. I certainly wish I could visit as those gaming tables look great. Another time....will certainly connect if cameras get turned on...
Orcs & Toxicpixie.... Isn't it a well known fact that old figures that haven't made it to the painting table do stirling service (in the interim) holding the table down & making sure those annoying pieces of paper don't float away.😇

Mine weigh the loft down so it doesn't leave, and cover my desk to an extent I can barely do real work!

It is a well known fact that to be content and live a long and happy life the wargamer needs the following;-
At least his own weight in unpainted lead, plastic and resin Models
A Spouse who is tolerant of:-
The hobby in general
Frequent vists to military museums
Constant comments on the inaccuracies of vehicles and uniforms while watching TV
The annexation of the Dining table for Games (For weeks on end in my case)
The addictive need to paint.
That the words need and want actually mean the same thing in wargamer speak.
A firm belief that it is a fact that if you paint your last unpainted model you will die.
Fortunately Mrs Orcs is extremely tolerant of my hobby
I would love to come, but its a 8 hour return journey. Looked at trains, but at £168 return it looked a tad pricey
Sounds very exciting - Do I/we need to book in advance?
Quote from: rupert on 31 May 2022, 10:49:30 PMSounds very exciting - Do I/we need to book in advance?
No booking needed, just come along the day and enjoy!
Congratulations - wow, 30 years, I am instantly transported back to the early days of all of that at the Phalanx Wargame show. Dave had just bought in a 1066 line-up and there was a young Pete Berry from Baccus showing off a new motte and bailey type mound. Happy days!

Fly - it's probably quicker and cheaper. And local flights aren't likely to be as devastated as cross border ones atm...

Crikey! I'd hope that's because train travel has become cheaper, but sadly not :/
I checked flights to Middleborough when the 30th Birthday Bash was announced. Round trip flights from Edinburgh were over £500. I could get a cheap weeks holiday on the continent for that. To be fair the cheapest option (set off at 06:00 arrive 17:55) involved a stopover in Holland!

£500 to fly from Edinburgh to Newcastle/Middlesbourgh? That's insane, but the way airlines tend to price things sometimes seems to defy logic. Here in NZ it's sometimes cheaper to fly to Australia (a 3 hour flight across the Tasman) than it is to fly across Cook Strait from Wellington to Nelson (about 25 - 30 minutes) unless you book well in advance.

Insane... it only cost me £90 each way from B'ham to the Burgh!
That £180 now seems to be £250ish... unless I go top end for a grand plus :/
Booking ahead seems a little better but sheesh.
Train fare... same price or more, although theres a flashing ONLY LIMITED TICKETS LEFT that's £140...
Wow, also shocked at those prices...500£ used to be able to get you from Vancouver to Montreal in first class. (Some 4550 km) currently $380-390 cdn (about 247£)
For "local" travel it might almost be cheaper to hop on a horse.
We've had most of the games confirmed now so we'll have a great mix on offer:
- Attack on Wimentun Village (Baron Wars 1215-17) in 28mm by the Prince Bishops Wargames Club
- Race to the Channel (France 1940) in 10mm by the Border Reivers/Under the Bed Painting Service

- Stargrave (Sci-Fi) in 28mm by Redcar Ironbeards
Family have finally made up their minds about what and when they are doing so we are now able to come to the 'bash'.
Are there any plans for a meal/get together on the Saturday evening yet ? If so we would take two places.

Great stuff. Discord is a great site for miniature gamers.
Quote from: pbeccas on 14 July 2022, 03:40:29 AMGreat stuff. Discord is a great site for miniature gamers.
I've no idea about Discord, how it works or whether it's any good or not - although I just signed up.
I use Discord for my regular Monday, Wednesday and Friday online board gaming sessions on Board Game Arena and also for group chat for dungeon runs, and the like, in online RPG's. I find it both easy to use and very useful.
I'm completely new to it as well, I've had to get my eldest to set it up for us and explain how it works. There's an ageing experience, when your kids have to explain something to you for the first time...!
Jamie will be in charge of the Discord server during the day, adding pictures of all the games at regular intervals. We'll also have a live-stream running through a tablet, so we'll move that around each game as well, probably every half hour or so.

I know! The worst bit is that I had to give up after a while and just get him to do it.
How you makeing the paper tapes for it or have you advanced to punched cards ?
We use Discord weekly for paint and chats. You can have the option for just voice if you don't want live video. Super easy to start your own channel. We post pictures of our miniatures, games, etc. Best part, it's private groups by invite so you don't get all the crap that's associated with Facepalm and Twitter. It reminds me of a modern version of the old yahoo groups.

MDF punch cards coded on the laser cutter :)
Having looked at train prices, £51 return plus taxis in Middlesbrough, plus a total of 7 hours travelling, have decided I can't get to the birthday bash, and that £50-odd would be better spent in the Pendraken webstore....

Yes, I think this is the way of the future. Distance travelling uses money that would be more effectively used on figures and the time is better used on online using ZOOM or DISCORD.
I'm lucky that we can combine a visit to my sister in law in N Ormesby with a day at Pendraken HQ. If I had to do it by train I would probably have to pass. I did miss Joy of Six because of the rubbish train services running on a Sunday since they rearranged Manchester's rail lines. I can mitigate the prices a bit by booking early but no way am I going to change three times between home & Sheffield, it used to be just one change.
Looking forward to it.
There will be an Antipodean game to mark the official birthday. Pierre the Shy and I will be visiting Wellington Warlords and playing the
Battle of Guilford Courthouse (American War of Independence 1775–1783) in 10mm
We will provide some pictures and a report in due course
Without an available teenager we won't be using discord ;)

Excellent, great news! You can borrow my teenager if you like, as long as you've got trees and Wi-Fi he's happy to travel.
Hopefully the British will be able to decisively engage the Continentials in the third line this time.....we have fought this scenario twice before but the large force of militia in the first two lines always manages to hold the British long enough to frustrate a co-ordinated attack on the best rebel troops.
This is a fantastically well written scenario for wing scale V&B, while the British must be handled aggressively from turn one they also need to conserve enough to take on the Continentials, a real balancing act.
Really looking forward to this game. God Save the King! :)
It sounds like I might be Greene tomorrow, Nathanael Greene ;)

Pfft! I'll be 69 next week and I managed it. A smart young man like yourself should have no problem.
Perhaps a little late to get the gear, account and knowledge required to livestream the game on Twitch, though. :)
Have a great day!!
Hope to look in electronically at some stage.
Now where did that teenager go?
Best wishes. Hope to pop in between watching rugby matches.
Tried to register on Discord - told me my email already had an account and I couldn't claim the new one! Used another email. All fine.
Then remembered joining Discord some years ago - not the foggiest what for - recovered that account now - I just wish I could remember why I did it!
Have fun all!
Well it's just gone 2am, the shop is stocked, the game room is finished and ready, so all we need now is some gamers! Don't forget to visit our Discord server during the day for live updates/videos: https://discord.gg/WTYqzCXU and we'll be updating Facebook/Twitter regularly too.
Also, the 30th Birthday Sale is now on, so head over to the website and grab yourself a bargain. I might have added some sneaky new releases just in time for the sale... https://www.pendraken.co.uk/10mm-modern-764-c.asp I'll do a proper release announcement after the Birthday Bash.
I'll put a load of pics up of the day once I've recovered on Sat night/Sun afternoon.
Is there a code for the sale Leon? Or is at automatically calculated at checkout?
Thanks
Had the same question myself.... Sale item price automatically built into the order cart. Just did my order.
And thanks Leon for having the sale for those of us not able to make it. Best wishes & much fun to all.

Yes had a good day out refighting Guilford Courthouse at the Warlords
I think we flew the flag pretty well for the cause, not sure if we convinced too many larger scale devotees to downsize to 10mm but the game certainly got a steady flow of onlookers and favourable comments.
And the winner was...........10mm gaming.
