Title: Wings Palette offline?
Post by: pierre the shy on 14 May 2022, 06:02:22 AM
Wings Palette, the fairly comprehensive site I've used for many years for aircraft paint schemes and pictures seems to have died. :(

It is/was a Russian based site, but unsure if it's demise is due to the current unpleasentness or some other occurance....its been around since at least 2002, a long time in internet terms.  :-\

Yep, still down for me as well. Suspect we're "better" at cyber/hybrid/infrastructure/financial warfare than the Russians.

Probably not, tbh - just quieter and more effective.

An example I picked up today ...

I'm surprised that anybody is surprised but some of these revelatory sites do have their own 'anti-establishment/liberal' agendas.  As far as Wings Palette and sites originating in Russia are concerned there are two points I think.  The first is that they are going to be less accessible in present circumstances and the second, is that they ought to be avoided anyway, because you can bet your bottom rouble that the FSB, or some other Kremlin security/intelligence organisation, uses them to collect information and for other nefarious info ops related activity.

Yes, being unhappy about vast population surveillance without over site for shadowy purposes is only something leftists are unhappy about ;)

To be honest I was surprised that Wings Palette didn't disappear eariler for those very reasons.

I only mentioned it's demise here because other people have mentioned that they also found it a useful resource for gaming purposes.

If I get a call telling me my IL-2's are painted in the wrong colours I'll know why  ;)
