If I was looking to put together both an Israeli and Egyptian force for the Suez Crisis, so which Pendraken figures/vehicles would folks suggest I use?
Looking at the pictures of the period the IDF (infantry in particular) seem to use a mix of equipment.
Can I use a mix of Brits (& which codes?) and US (again, which codes?).
I can obviously use the following as far as vehicles goes:
IDF:
Super Shermans
AMX-13s
Universal Carriers
M3 half-tracks (suggestions on variants would be helpful)
What about trucks or other transport
What about self-propelled artillery?
Egyptian
Again - what are peoples thoughts on which infantry codes to use - is it mainly US WW2?
Armour is not a problem as T34/85s and IS-3s appear in the Pendraken range - but I'm not sure again about infantry transport and support vehicles.
All thoughts gratefully received.
Many thanks
So
My research is based on a couple of idle flick thru the web when people have mentioned it, but UK style uniform with US style helmets seem common for the IDF, except paras who seem to look very like UK paras incl the helmet and smock (when in a BD jacket!)...
But if I've even spent an hour on it I'd be surprised :D
BTR 152s and almost certainly a few Bren Gun Carriers for Egyptian Infantry armoured transport.
The horrid Challenger rules used to have a highly useful set of army lists for the period 1956-1968 which you may be able to find somewhere
All help gratefully received.
I'd agree about the mix of kit - e.g. US helmets and UK uniforms for the IDF.
But the Egyptians seem to also look pretty similar.
Any suggestions on reading material would also be helpful & gratefully received.
Thanks
Mark

For Egyptian infantry I'd use British WW2 infantry

FOr both Egyptian and IDF infantry take a look here:

So you can use WW2 Brits for IDF infantry too, in a lighter stone colour.
But this also shows US style kit for IDF infantry, again WW2 figures:

Israelis Shermans were in dark OD green, not sand, in the 1956 war. Halftrack variants include with and without pulpits for the .50" HMG.
Egyptian trucks include US, UK and Canadian WW2 types, plus postwar copies thereof, eg Dodge Power wagon, CJ3A Jeep, Ford Thames Trader 4x4; Scameell Explorer recovery, Thornycront Mighty Antar.
And here you have IDF infantry in US helmets and FN-FAL assault rifles

So use 1967-73 IDF infantry for them perhaps.
and further down Egytpian infantry in US kit, Hotchkiss MMG by the look of it and a bazooka of some sort!

And US helmets, indeterminate desert uniform and Sten Guns!
You can probably get away with anything for anyone :D
