Suspect this is one for Mollinary...

7 YW Prussians
I know there are 5 flags to a regiment, but if I only have two, a colonel's and a regimental flag.
Who goes on the left when observed from the front?
If you're looking at them from the front, the Leibfahne (with the white field) is on the left (on the right if you're standing in the line).
Unfortunately Duffy's Army of a Frederick the Great doesn't say. It does contain a diagram of a deployed battalion, which shows the 5 colours grouped in the centre with 6 nco's. They are lined up as follows.
NCO ENSIGN ENSIGN NCO
NCO ENSIGN NCO
NCO ENSIGN ENSIGN NCO
No indication as to which is the Leibfahne. The battalion in this case is pointing toward the top of the page.
Digby Smith* says leibfahne carried by the senior musketeer company, all other musketeer companies carried a ordinairfahr and grenadiers did not carry colours.
Probably not the answer you wanted.

Thank you all gentlemen
Can't help on the number and position of flags but my Pengel & Hurt material gives colour of flagpoles if that is of any interest

Interesting. Could you provide a source please, as I could not find one?

The Osprey books and Kronoskaf will also give you that info. :)

Got the flagstaff colours from Kronstaf, but thank you

Not my period, but isn't it convention that the most senior is on the right?
