Dear God - Mubarak Bala, President of the Humanist Association of Nigeria, has just been given 24 years for blasphemy. Russia is not the only one.
I hadn't seen this news, but sadly not surprising as he was tried in Kano and had admitted blasphemy and apostasy. To be honest, I was amazed he wasn't sentenced to death. People have been lynched or beaten to death by the 'mob' for less in the past.
Even though I love Nigeria having lived there, I do frequently despair of the place and frankly am glad I live here in the UK.

Apostasy is a crime punishable by death in many Muslim countries. Astonishing what some people will do in the name of religion.
