Title: Crimean War : Russian sailors & Marines
Post by: tony of TTT on 17 February 2022, 04:37:23 PM
Having wasted over an hour on the 'net I still can't find any reliably consistent info on what the ships' crews and marines wore in the way of uniform while fighting on land. Most did fight in the redoubts and trenches at Sebastopol but some also fought in the later battles.

I have seen them depicted in greatcoat & white trousers (useless to me as mine are sans greatcoats), standard infantry kit of green & white, dark blue trousers & white shirts (these from a number of contemporary watercolours) manning guns and all dark (probably blue).

The naval uniform is navy blue jacket & blue or white trousers (and the naval greatcoat is also navy blue - but that may be the one for officers, can't find a rating with a greatcoat).

Does anyone know what colour they actually wore ??
