Title: Unread posts
Post by: Lord Kermit of Birkenhead on 29 January 2022, 08:50:05 AM
This morning the "unread posts" button keeps telling me there are none. "Updated Topics" says otherwise, as I would suspect havibng been offline for 24hrs. Looks like a bug to me.

I suspected something like this a few days ago but thought it was probably only me

I get it quite often, when I can see there are responses to say an AAR I have posted, but nothing comes up when I use the Unread Posts button. The same thing happened on the old forum too.

Seems ok ATM, an intermittent bug then. My work rounds - use updated topics, or scroll to the bottom of the home page and hit the new posts. Fu**ing computers  >:(  :o

I just tried the Updated Topics buttons and found 150 pages worth of stuff I'd missed :o . I tried clicking mark all messages as read to clear the backlog as it were, but it only clears one page at a time!

I'll have to chase this up and see what's causing it.  I would suspect that the 150 pages of Updated Topics is probably to do with the upgrade, where it's showing a whole pile of threads that haven't actually been updated?

It has continued after the upgrade Leon, but not sure why. Using a mix of Ian's suggestions works for the moment.

Hmmm, the Updated Topics missed out two new topics this evening, one on aerials for AFVs and the other on Scams. Confused? I certainly am :(.

Your technical ability is well known Phil.  ;)  Problem cleared up after about an hour. Luck on finding the bug Leon

Interesting thread - I don't appear to be missing any threads or topics (based on what people are saying here).

But I tend to read most of the threads and them mark all the others I've not read/don't want to read as 'Read' so my Inbox is mostly empty (it's a work habit, as working in an organization with 110,000 colleagues, your Inbox can become overwhelmed if you are not careful  :D )

What I want to know is why I don't have 'Global Moderator' or Administrator (which I don't want to play with......though I have the buttons.)....next to Phil2..

Sure that's why the forum can't cope with me.

Sodding thing. ;)

Because the Techno account will have these privileges. The Phil2 one is probably just a normal account.

The forum doesn't know that it is the same person using those two accounts.

You've got the Global Mod level on your account, but it might not show next to your name.  Just check whether you can edit someone else's post and that'll show whether you've got Mod status or not.

Only Von can cope with you Phil  ;D  ;D

This is true, Ian.

(If this works I'd appear to have the Global Mod facility.)

Cheers - Phil.

Well spotted, Ian. :D

I'm frigging sure that there's a big glitch between what you get on a PC ....and what you can see on a phone/tablet.

On the PC......I get the option to kick out "All unread messages"...Which is great...My preferred option....Not interested in anything that's not got anything to do with PD.

Don't get that on the tablet...No clicky button at all....

The tablet ?.......I need to go through every single message..(one by one)..and delete, singly.

That'll be the OP system - Windowsa on the PC and Andriod on the Pghone or Tab - or Apple.

I'm still getting different 'new posts' showing, depending upon whether I use the 'Unread Posts, 'Updated Topics' (both right hand corner) or the 'Latest Posts Thingy' at the very bottom of the home page.

So for example in 'Updated Topics' Stu's post and the replies introducing himself didn't show, yet they did in the other options.

I'm confused to say the least :( .

Now I really am confused as since posting just now, Stu's bit in the Intros & Welcome has shown up in the 'Unread Topics' :'( .

Steve remember - never on time, never to cost, never works, never original. Applies to all IT.

I want to know what a couple of the buttons that I can see...When I use the tablet, are supposed to do.

There are others that there's no way I'm playing with.

I'm not pressing them, in case I break something.

Moderation is fairly self explanatory.
User Actions ?

I'll start a new thread....I might even use my other nom de plume.....and you can all join in....Then it won't matter if it all disappears.

Not today, though.

I'll probably stick to just using the PC when I look at the forum.
