Thanks Norm
Read the first couple of 'chapters' and enjoying it! Will hopefully get chance to read more later
Ta La
Will download it later and read with pleasure, as always. Perfect for today given that I've gone down with a cold :( .
Thanks Norm
Thanks Norm. I've downloaded it and will save until the relatives have finally gone home and I can peruse at my leisure. Merry Christmas,
Geoff
Thanks all, Steve, hope your cold does not get in the way of enjoying Christmas.
Thanks for the effort this must have taken. It was great to read about someone who also has such a spread of interests across wargame types and periods. I also really enjoyed S&T's Cobra in its day except I could never get "carpet bombing" to make much difference. If you haven't already, don't forget to raid the SoA forum and battle day info on Bosworth.

Thanks Dave, I must admit by the end of it I was flagging, but the interest has been very good. I WILL get Cobra to the table this year and the carpet bombing rule will now be in my head, so expect to see some comment on it in an upcoming post. And thanks for the SoA forum reminder, I will chase that up.
Thank you for your work getting this together Norm, some very useful ideas for converting boardgames into tabletop encounters :-bd
Many thanks, perfect read after Boxing Day Sales!!
I've made a good start and am very much enjoying the read :) :) :)
As always many interesting, thoughtful and well set out views
The obvious effort is very much appreciated
I've been enjoying reading some more of the Gazette and have a question on your simple ladder campaign
Why does one side occupy zones 1-4 and the other only zone 5?
Would it give a more 'even' start if one side occupied zones 1-3 and the other zones 4-5. This would also avoid the risk of the campaign ending after two games.
Hi Paul, in my original ladder game, it covered the Soviet offensive around Yartzevo. The ladder was bigger at 7 squares. The Soviets were given a larger order-of-battle being on the offensive, plus in between each game, both players drew a chit from a draw bag, numbered 1 - 12 and this indicated what reinforcement each would get before the next battle.
The reinforcements could bring in men, tanks,anti-tank guns etc, with some chits being weighted towards defence and others offence. The players would hope that they drew a chit that would be closest to their current needs / predicament.
THe Germans initially held 6 boxes, the Soviets one and the swing box was Yartzevo, making the fight over yartzevo the critical action.
My last two ladder games just took the principle of the ladder itself without the other dressing and as such, I should have given more thought to to making the ladder more balanced, so yes, for the simple ladder, giving the French two positions would have been better because there are too many other equal parts in the rest of the campaign.
As an aside, here is a link to the post that covered that campaign. In the Resource Section, download number 1 gives all of the admin detail of the ladder campaign including battlefield construction and reinforcement allowances. LINK
