Well I hope everybody is safe after some pretty damned strong winds last night, which are only beginning to ease here. We didn't get much sleep given the wind direction meant it was howling down the street all night, with various bits of debris blowing along making noise. I think we got woken up around 3-4 times, so feeling a tad tired.
So anyone planning on going to Warfare today, take care and be careful.
Very strong and noisy here, Steve....though it seems to be dropping now.
I'm sure there'll be some branches down, along the road to the village.
Cheers - Phil. :)
Rather wild here but mostly dry, not seen any snow as yet.
Yep, I'm sure we'll have lots of branches on the road and a few trees down in the woods. No rain or sleet yet as forecast...
Very windy here. Had a bit of neighbour's roof blow off last night (just plastic edging) which landed on the conservatory roof with a big clatter, whilst I was try to war game last night!
A few things blown over in the garden but nothing that doesn't just need picking up
Daughter has shared photos of a thin layer of snow in Birmingham this morning.
Fence to next door has blown down (their responsibility ;) ) and lots of leaves in the garden, but otherwise we seem to have survived unscathed.
A mixture of rain, sleet and snow has just arrived and the winds haven't abated much. Glad I don't have to go out anywhere today.
Northumberland. Last night rather 'noisy' with heavy rain and some sleet. Suprisingly little tree damage in garden apart from loads of 'bits'. :)
Fairly Quiet, now.
Good thing. Stream has cleared itself of accumulated leaf/stick jams, so I don't have to! :)
Bad thing: New 'flat' flat roof areas with guttering instead of 'lip'... in a couple of places, guttering just cannot cope with heavy rain. One place, joint leaks/overflows onto bedroom windowsill... noisy. Another, water overflows to sheet down wall. Had installer out to rectify, a while back... but hasn't worked and don't see what can be done. Maybe, should have gone for 'lipped' roof and accepted 'pooling'... it was there for 50 years! Try to 'improve' things... :(
Only a few branches in the road....and they were partially rotten, anyway.
Biggest were an inch and a half (40mm) in diameter.
I just picked those up and threw them into our fields.
One dustbin lid had gone walkabout...but not far.
In the village, one litter bin had gone walkabout...and that was about it.
For the strength of wind (sound wise)....we got away VERY lightly in this area of SW Wales.
Cheers - Phil. :)
I had to go out last night and put a few bricks on top of our bins as they were threatening to migrate. Checked the fence while I was out, rock solid.
The bins were all still in place the following morning but left the bricks on top as it was still a bit gusty.
I have a Japanese Maple in our front garden and every leaf including those fallen into the garden border have gone, no idea where.
Out back I do not have any trees but the garden is full of leaves, somebody else's leaves as there was not a Maple leaf in sight.
An invigorating and bracing walk this afternoon, with the wind still really strong when on the top of the hills, then as still as anything in the lee of the hills. A few rotten trees down and the woods suddenly carpeted in leaves, which looked rather nice.
My wife had to go into Bristol and said it wasn't fun driving the car as it was blown about quite a bit this morning.
Jimbo. ;)
With the direction of the wind....your leaves are probably down somewhere near Leon's home in Middlesbrough.
Cheers - Phil. :)

Following that logic then the leaves in my garden have come from Aberdeen.
:)
All the leaves are on the footpath round here. However the jungle nextdoor has been cut down finally, probably cause the huge plant in the wall pulled it down in the last gale. We have also collected a Lidl bag for life and the door from the flat downstairs has migrated to the back of the yard. Wind seems to be dropping. :P :P
PAH !!!!
My dear 'little' ;D ;D ;D niece (lives oodles further North than you do, Jimbo.)
I hope she and my 'baby bruv' have managed to survive .
Can't contact them at the mo.
Cheers - Phil :)
VERY windy here (Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire) last night! Lots of trees and fences down and the couple of inches of snow blown into drifts.
The wind here somehow swept all the leaves into a pile in a corner of the back yard!
Went a street across, and lots of small branches down in the road, whereas on ours nothing too much.
Wind seems to be building again tonight
A friend's Static Caravan near Bamburgh had a partial support collapse and others lamenting trees down, but remarkably little damage overall.
Today, Sunday, light snow lying a bit on frosted ground but nothing of import. Could change, though. Twice, Cat has declined to go for his usual perambulations...
Arwen, here at least, seems to have been a nice Gal. Wonder what Hecate will be like, when she comes to visit someday? :o
Speaking to Leon yesterday at Warfare a part of the roof of the Pendraken unit had been blown off.
Edward
Oh, no ! X_X
I do hope not TOO bad, Leon....fingers crossed.
The storm caused me accident number 2 today. =)
Ridge tile had blown off..so I had to go up into the 'old' attic' and see how much daylight I could see from where it had come off.
Fortunately....No gaping hole, but that tile will need replacing...not by me.
Mishap no. 2 was shifting the loft hatch...much heavier than I remembered and I managed to drop that on my head....Fortunately NOT a corner, otherwise that would have been blood, spurt, murder.
Accident 3 was filling a water trough for the field where two of the horses will be spending the next few weeks.
Final full bucket to take over....I tripped on a pice of bramble, and went flying, landing on the top edge of a very hard plastic bucket.....Nicely bruised shin, and a very wet leg. Wellies, jeans and socks currently drying on a radiator.
That's my 3 for today....I hope,
Cheers - Phil. =)

Hope it's only a small bit of roof!
Phil- what can I say!
Went out on a bike ride this morning (cold, dry and not windy) best weather in several days! On one side rode found a tree across the road! A lady walking her dog had warned me, but no warning signs.
A bit of snow around lunch time (most unusual for round here), but didn't settle.

He's back. #-o =)
Phil, you really are an accident waiting to happen!
Helped plant 550 trees today, mostly oaks, today in the two hours before the snow arrived

Good Show! As a responsible Tree-Parent, you will find that visits for Chats, Hugs and in time, stern warnings about 'That Ivy', (She's Clingy!)... will be very rewarding in later years.
I, myself, am considering the raising of a small brood of Pine cone seedlings. Sadly, the Scots Pine with a lean towards the house, has
his her its days numbered... but if I can let it know 'job done'... I will feel better about its demise. :( :)
Well done Mark :) .
Good man !! :-bd
Cheers - Phil. :)
Nice one Mark!
Cheers guys!
That'll bring the total I've helped plant in the last 5 years to over 5000. Another 75 to do next weekend.
Burnley has also just received funding for 16,000 more trees in 40 "micro-forests" around the borough :)

One hopes, not too bad? My ex-workplace, (90s 'warehouse unit' build.), had a 'twin' down Yorks, which lost most of it's roof in a storm. :o
Sadly it's true, Storm Arwen decided to give Pendraken HQ a whack and took a strip of the roof panels off, leaving the back office completely open to the elements. It set the security alarm off so my phone had pinged me and I asked Dave to go down and check on it. Him and Mike managed to use some spare floorboards to patch the gap for now and we've got the insurance people calling me on Tues to get a proper fix sorted out.
Quick video of the damaged section:
The most annoying bit is that I've spent so much time fixing the roof and then this comes along. The storm has lifted a lot of the other panels on the back half of the unit, so we've got loads of leaks coming through into the workshop again.

Well done that man :)
I saw that the weather in your part of the world was pretty bad on the BBC News when they were reporting on the Burnley v Spurs game being postponed since the pitch was completely covered in snow!
Leon. Sorry to see damage. Hole that big and rest of roof could have gone. Best wishes.
