Title: Testing, testing 1234......
Post by: Techno II on 09 November 2021, 08:41:56 PM
Ah....so THAT'S where the 'new topic' button's hidden.

Does it correct spelling mistakes ?....Yes....I deliberately spelled correct incorrectly, the first time.

Which means it's got predictive spelling. =)
How does it like 'colour'?....That's OK.

All my PMs seem to have disappeared at the mo.....Maybe those haven't been done yet.

Cheers - Phil. :)

Yep, everything seems to be working more or less as it's supposed to.  I'll need to check through the settings over the next few days and see if we need any tweaks.

Phew ... for a moment there I thought the Top Totty Thread had been removed in a moment of PC madness

Well it Looks good, It will take a while to get used to it. A bit like a new lover.  Takes a while to forget how the previous one looked. No doubt in a decade or so we will be used to it.

Found the avatar box.....it's there now.....I'll do that from the PC tomorrow.

The display is much better on a phone now. Text wraps to give shorter lines, so the text size is much more readable. This is huge improvement

I think all of the previous images need to come over separately, same with the 'Rank' images and also the membergroup images (so Team Pendraken, painting comp winners, etc.)

Yep, I've checked that at this end as well and it's much better.  This was one of the big ticks for moving to the new version.

Good......I won't try and put my avatar back. ;D  ;D  ;D

It's definitely a better layout for phones/tablets......It's just a case of getting used to where all the 'normal' buttons are now.

Trying the emoticon for undecided... :-\ ....Good. that doesn't need an added backslash anymore. :-bd

Aha !...Really should have sussed  8-} ..It's the phone or tablet that does the predictive testing...not the site itself.

I'll give the curse of the apostrophe in the subject's title a check next.

Ok it do 'ave bugs.

1) The auto login seems to be slightly broke - it didn't although logged in forever at 06:00 this morning.
2) Getting to login takes several clicks on various bits.

I run Chrome on Windows 11 so there is little point in that nice Mr Leiws on Windows 1 and a 386 chip won't be much use.

No worries, I'll pop that on the tweaks/fix list.

I've put those on the list, I've not tried the return login yet myself but we'll have a look at it.  The login was something I'd spotted myself as that needs to go back to the usual box-style one that we had before.

Am I the only one to find the colour rather a harsh, strident, plastic blue that is awkward for the eye to cope with?  I would have preferred something which was a bit paler.

What is the font? It seems to be a different one from the previous one and is more difficult for me to read.

The grey text font could do to a be a bit darker

The dark blue at the top and bottom footers, is oddly vivid for a dark blue

I dread to think what Leon's paying for this.

Taken me umpteen times to get 'back in'...changing this and that, so I can actually post anything.

About time.

If I disappear for a good few days..don't be surprised....I'm either a) getting a load of grief from Firefox..which doesn't seem to like the new forum...b) the new forum is playing silly sods...(Good grief.....Slow..hanging or what ?) ...or c) the main incoming telecomm junction box on one of the walls of Techno Towers is full of water (again). (BT needs to change that...FINALLY.)

Carrier pigeons would be more reliable at the mo.

Forbes.....Truly, don't go there and tell me to calm down....I'll go ballistic.

Cheers - Not at all calm of Pembrokeshire.

Phil,

I'm using Firefox and the forum is smooth as silk, apart from the system clock being wrong (should be an easy fix) it is behaving as I'd expect so I'd suspect the junction box.

As to standardising on GMT, more reason Scotland should be independent IMHO.

I'm finding it a tiny bit difficult to read posted messages...For me the perfect font would be a little 'bolder'.

The font in the 'Quick Reply' is much clearer, (for me).....Or is it because it's black on white, rather than black(ish) on pale blue/gray ?

Hello Leon

Yes the blank circles, at a casual glance, look very similar and I find it hard to tell the difference. From memory the old forum used a similar system but there was a distinct difference between the forum and sub-forum posts. We seem to be very grey oriented at the moment  :) . Is there some setting on the graphic for new posts that you can tweak rather than go to the trouble of adding logos.

I'll ask the webguy and see what options we've got there.  I think you're right on the previous version, the boards/sub-boards used to show in bold (?) if there were new posts in there, which made them a bit easier to see.

Urgh, hate those.

But even they are not as bad as those 12 blurred pictures with the instruction 'select all showing crosswalks (or buses, or motorbikes, or fire hydrants, etc.)'. Bastards.

I hate those ones, as well....
The Post Office/Royal Mail used to use them on Track and Trace (I don't think they do now.)
Some were nigh on impossible to do correctly. X_X

QuoteThere's two of them :o  X_X
Reminds me of:

serious contender for 'Best Heckle Ever' is that offered to Mike and Bernie Winters, a 1960's and 70's comedy double act when playing the notoriously difficult Glasgow Empire. Their act relied heavily on their cultivated image as a pair of loveable Cockney brothers, not something likely to endear them to a Scottish audience at the best of times. The opening skit, Mike (alone) playing music, was met with a funereal silence. Bernie then bounced on stage to continue the act/rescue his brother, at which point the stony silence was broken by a Glaswegian voice, "**** me, there's two of them!"

Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise were asked in an interview: 'What would you have been if you hadn't been comedians?'

Eric's immediate reply: 'Mike and Bernie Winters.'

Anyone...

Can you get at your 'sent' messages (PMs)?....Since the new forum layout started.

I've only sent two....One to Forbes (fred) and one to John (Cook).

Had replies..which I can get at/see, but we used to be able to check what we've sent...and I can't find that section atm.

I may have to talk to myself. Techno II to Phil2 to check this one out. :-\

Cheers - Phil  :)

Don't, Ian. X_X  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

It doesn't like me talking to myself, though I think I've sussed the prob.
I don't think Phil2 has been fully authorised yet....so Phil2 got another Captcha code to plonk in to send a PM....and I hadn't cleared that properly (I asked it for a verbal code..even though I know I got the code right...twice.....s*dding technology. ;D  ;D  ;D )

Over to you, Techno II ;)

Cheers - Phil. :-*

You should worry, Doppelganger.

That's enough talking to myself.

Cheers - The real Phil....I think. ;)
