Hallo All,
Have been quietly plugging away with my 1870's/80's Ironclad ships plus some extras... First up: The Glorious Ugliness that is the Amiral Duperré from 1883...
... The rather cute Austrian Kaiser Max from 1876...
Very nice indeed. I actually find the ironclads from that period rather beautiful.
... A floating dock with the Duperré ensconced...
Good stuff there.
... A Venetian octagonal fort...
And finally... An ubiquitous Starbucks coffee-cup lid Sea fort... :D Enjoy!!
Best wishes,
Stu

Thank you Leman, I fully agree with you, so much more interesting than the later homogenous designs!! :)
That fort is pure genius.

That fort is pure genius.
:D I can't claim bragging rights on originality for this... have seen many variants on various blogs over the years!!
Great work on these - are the ships entirely scratch built?

Thank you Fred, yes these are all scratch built at around 1/1000 scale... sort of...!! :D
Those are jaw droppingly amazing! Wow!
Nicely done! The ships of those days were truly elegant.

Many thanks Lord Speedy, they do take some time to build, the Duperré especially was a bit of a beast!! :D
Love the ships of that era, also* - and, of course your scratch built models! :-bd
*Evokes memories of past visits to HMS Warrior, standing alongside mock-ups of the Monitor turret with Dahlgren guns and gun deck of the Virginia, boyhood research utilising Jane's silhouettes of warships of the era when I tried scratch building balsa wood model ships using the 'sandwich' method, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and Kind Hearts and Coronets! ;D I was also intrigued by the colour scheme of the barrels of the deck guns on the French ship (the Warrior and ACW ones are black).

Thank you Poggle, It was a very interesting transitional period in ship design.

Thank you Westmarcher, much appreciated!... The French seemed to change their colour schemes as often as they changed their ship designs!!!! :D
I'm absolutely knocked out by the standard of modelling.
Congratulations.
Those are spifftacular! And the Starbuck's lid fort is a stroke of genius.

Stunning work
Am I missing something or is the Venetian octagonal fort missing half its guns?

Thank you Paulr:-)... The Venetian fort is awaiting delivery of the rest of its armament... but the plague has disrupted the supply chain!!! :D
I'm well impressed with all of those !
Cracking work !! :-bd
Cheers - Phil. :)
Those are stunning models. Absolute labours of love. I am guessing you get as much pleasure making them as gaming with them.
Have to agree.

Thank you John :) I guess I do fall into the category of 'collector', we live in a very small space, so there is precious little room for gaming!!
