Title: Half Timbered German Buildings
Post by: Heedless Horseman on 13 July 2021, 03:58:27 AM
Curious about what others use for 'traditional' German buildings with beams and tiled roofing? My interest, WW2, but C17 on would apply. There MUST be stuff, given the huge interest in Naps and earlier... just, I have not turned up much apart from TimeCast. Not really after the BIG structures... Granaries, Churches, etc. Just a few houses and an Inn.. etc.

Scratched a couple in 15, using match sticks for the beams. Tiles were a pain though.

I use Leven Miniatures 6mm buildings, which have a great range of stuff, such as:

https://www.levenminiatures.co.uk/fachwerk.html (https://www.levenminiatures.co.uk/fachwerk.html)

Battlescale also do some in both 6mm and 10mm:

https://battlescale.com/t/10mm-buildings (https://battlescale.com/t/10mm-buildings)

Hope this helps?

n gauge card buildings from Germany! Called Schreiber-Bogen Modelbau - this set is very good:

https://www.schreiber-bogen.com/cat.php?dev=1&ac=3&t=481

I've picked up most of mine from ebay.

Alternatively use the "medieval fantasy" houses from Dave Graffam models over on the Wargames Vault, scale them down to 34% to give 10mm roughly:

+1 on both the Leven and Battlescale stuff, both produce very nice 6/10mm buildings and are very customer freindly.

Years ago he made a few buildings freely available. Original website is long gone, but they're still there via the internet archive: http://web.archive.org/web/20090228064115/http://www.davesgames.net:80/wfrp2/ (http://web.archive.org/web/20090228064115/http://www.davesgames.net:80/wfrp2/). Useful for gaming as they have small footprints.

Again a positive comment for the Leven 6mm houses, which are great for the likes of Froeshwiller in the FPW, Kissingen 1866 or the opening battle of WWI in Alsace. The Battlescale 6mm also great for the big battles. I use Battlescale 10mm in some of my SYW games.

Here's a SYW photo featuring a 6mm Leven house.

Was also looking for generic buildings for my 1809 project. Found that 'Warbases' do a 10mm Fantasy range (MDF flatpack) that looks to fit the bill. Have just received some and started painting.

Also worth a look at Total Battle Miniatures - these are 10mm scale buildings, but have a reduced footprint so are good for mass battle games.

I quite like 6mm buildings for 10mm games too.

I have often looked at Total battle miniatures, but the postage within the UK seems very high at around 30% of cost. I understand it also includes the packaging and taking the stuff to the post office, but it does seem excessive

The hamlet is three buildings plus a base costing £28, which is surely well under 2KG. Postage is £8.40

If you have a village at £42 with 5 buildings the postage is £12.60 making £54.60

They say orders over £60.01 are post free, but if you do try and order say 3 villages the website still adds postage.

Three villages for £126 the postage is £25.20.

Compared to Pendraken who would charge you £3 for 6 of the Escenografia Epsilon buildings, which must be of a similar volume even if a little lighter

Its like they do not want you to order online.

For what it's worth their website does say... at least for UK customers that "UK orders of £60.01 and over will have the postage charges  refunded when the order has been processed.
This is due to automated Paypal ordering restrictions"

But doesn't apply to customers outside the UK......
