Thankyou again
Not bad, at all..... :)
Quite like a lot of that. :-bd
See.....I don't just like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Marillion, Jethro Tull, ELP, Rick Wakeman, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Blackfoot, Wishbone Ash....and all the rest......Bet none of you have even heard of Mark Shreeve.
(And, yes.....I can quite happily listen to 'old pop', without rushing to switch the radio off. Though Nobby's posts about me liking ABBA are a little way off the mark.)
I like a lot of classical 'stuff'.....Though most of that has been from those awfully nice composers, Wagner & Tchaikovsky.
Cheers - Phil. :)
Subtle stuff eh Phil, although your choice of rock groups is good. ;)

Wagner & Tchaikovsky.
You mention them in the same breath?!!?
Yes...... but for completely different reasons, Alexander ;)
I couldn't say I remotely enjoy ALL of either of those composers works......Like I couldn't say I 'froth' over every single song by (for example) Floyd, Genesis and Yes....There are songs by all of my 'faves' that I think are truly bloody awful.....Others I love.
There are a very few 'albums' that I can listen to all the way through, without 'skipping' tracks.
Cheers - Phil :)

One of the best film scores ever!! In my ever so humble opinion
And, of course, 'Conan' had 'Valeria'... the gorgeous Sandahl Bergman. :P
(Tried to upload pics to 'Top Totty'... but failed again! :( )
She's STILL worth a 'look', though! 8)

Figs... yep... 'sort of' ...but if 10mm is a little small, there are these guys in 1/72 plastic!

Bit of an underused actress in my opinion
Although she was in arguably one of the best B movies ever made.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090009/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090009/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2)
and then there was her sterling work in 'Hell Comes to Frogtown'
Oh Crom! Just realised that my Conan DVD is behind an enormous 'pile' of 'stuff! ' :o Arnie... job there... ;D
Following a collapse in a pile of stuff, I have had temporary access to a DVD case. Conan is Free!
Have not watched yet, but rescued, along with 3 or 4 other films.
King Arthur. Have been listening to the great Hans Zimmerman theme, so thought I'd treat myself! OMG! What absolute'Tosh'! Given the effort put into set build and some 'decent' performances, WHY write such 'tripe'?
Troy. Better than I remembered! it got 'slammed' at the time... but not bad at all! Not 'historically accurate' in so many ways... ships, armour, weapons, Troy... but very well done. Somehow, it 'worked' as a film.
Decent performances from some. Suitably pretty and rather 'lost' Helen. I don't 'like' Orlando Bloom... his face just 'annoys'... but an EXCELLENT performance as a 'troubled' Achilles!
Combat pretty good... given the usual 'charge', silliness . (Have just watched 'The Hobbit', 'Battle Of 5 armies'... and It's CGI for massed battle was pathetic. Might as well have been the 'Terracotta Army'... and far too much concentration on ridiculous 'leaping', 'structure collapses'...etc.). Troy...if you ignore tactics and force size... well, it 'looked' ok.
Worth digging out, maybe?

I consider the Peter Jackon Tolkien films to be some of the worst ever produced. Simply horrible.
I liked Peter Jackson's LoTR films but The Hobbit was a big disappointment.
Currently listening to "The Vikings" soundtrack and playing "Valheim."
"Hojo-to-ho!"
Saw the Jason Mamoa 'Conan' film the other night - not bad, a run of the mill sword & sorcery movie. Obviously made at a time when 3D was coming back into vogue again, as there an awful lot of things coming straight out of the screen for no other apparent reason . . .
Not a patch on the Arnie 'Conan the Barbarian', which has a sort of brooding grandeur about it (and early 80's special effects sadly). But miles better than the 'Conan the Destroyer' one.
Can't remember the soundtrack ;)
Without the BIG score, Conan would have been rather 'meh'. As you say, a 'Brooding Grandeur'. From DVD, Enrico Morricone was considered... can't think how that might have turned out? :o
'The Destroyer'... aye, a bit of a rehash. Pretty Princess and at least re-used the score. I think that if the 'series' HAD continued, it would have become 'Conan grapples with rubber monsters'... pulp cinema... like the comics! Wish they had tried, though...
I have not watched the Jason Momoa remake in full. Not impressed with bits caught on TV. He's great as Khal Drogo in GOT... but for me, Arnie was Conan.
Re-watching the original. after a long break, I think that the score rather carried the film until 'Valeria', the 'Princess Raid' and the 'Battle of the Stones'... EPIC!... and score suited perfectly. The ending always has seemed an anticlimax.
Strangely, another Blockbuster of the time... 'Apocalypse Now'... had similar ending... and was also, "Why did they do that?"
Still happens NOW... GOT! :'(
Ennio Morricone, eh?
They also do my favourite Bond theme:
All good, Raider.
Just trying to imagine Conan with Morricone's use of Electric Guitar and 'quirky' instruments! Great for the Spag Westerns... but I prefer the 'Epic' feel of the Conan soundtrack.
In my 'early' teens, when others were into Rock / Pop, I was playing Film / TV Themes. War, Western, Bond, Spy, Detective. It was only at 16+ that Rock and Metal took over!
