Shadow of Eagles, a new set of Napoleonic wargame rules started arriving in gamer's post boxes today.
This is a set of rules that has an emphasis on simplification and feel and my first impressions are positive.
I have done a bit of a write up on the blog that show the sequence of play, contents of the book and some of the mechanics and flavour of play. LINK

A great review of your initial impressions Norm. The simple attack on the hill is a very useful and simple intro to the core basics of the rules.
Nice review Norm. My own copy arrived too and it is a very nicely presented rulebook.
Thanks for an interesting review Norm :)
Enjoyed the review Norm, thanks.
Now .... which box, in which cupboard has my 6mm Napoleonics in it? :)
What they all said. :-bd
Cheers - Phil.
Thanks Norm
Very much appreciated Norm, as I am seriously considering buying these to give my 6mm British, French, Austrians, and probably Bavarians as well, something to do other than sit in a box. Having played HOW in 10mm since they were published, your review has helped sway me towards an investment. Many thanks.
Thanks all. I have spent today re-reading the rules, which helps embed principles and I have not come across anything that would cause me to change anything in my post.
I ran a brigade sized action today with proxies, that allowed me to look at Infantry assaulting artillery and then the mechanics and practicalities of two infantry units attacking one unit.
Hopefully during the week I will get something a bit bigger to the table - trying scenario 1 from the rules is probably the best place to start.
I hope you enjoy them Andy.
Indeed, I will go for the hardback from Caliver as I have so far not had a problem getting stuff from him. Will get myself new copies of BBB and BBEB as well (further casualties of the move).
